In a recent interview, Sarah Palin said to the interviewer that she will consider running for president if there is no one willing to do the job and take on the problems facing America. I think America is going to have to hold her to that promise.
I can't think of a reason why Palin would want to be president and move to Washington. She clearly loves Alaska and has a wonderful family who also love Alaska as home. Palin clearly has a good thing going with the influence she has on national politics and election cycles. On a personal level, she has been able to amass a small fortune in being who she is. I don't begrudge her the fortune, and I don't blame her for her love of the wild beauty of Alaska.
I can't think of a single reason she would want to move to an urban environment often choked with crime and poverty. I can't think of a good reason why she should want even more scrutiny into her life and her doings with her children and submit to being organized 24 hours a day. I can't think of why she would want to brave the wall of vitriol that would come from the left as well as many Republican establishment types. Make no mistake that if she does run for president, you can expect every rude, misogynistic, and disgusting word in several languages to be thrown her way.
In fact, there is only one reason I can ask Sarah Palin to brave the sewers of a presidential run. The reason is that we need her.
The brutal reality of America is that an aristocracy has developed in Washington against the wishes of the founders of this country. The Republican Party "insiders" are just as deep in the corruption and aristocratic thinking as the liberal elites. If anyone ever needed convincing of the deep disregard in which the aristocracy holds the serfs, the "insiders'" reaction to the Tea Party movement answered that question. In such an atmosphere of aristocratic minds, who else would be able to cut them down to size and remind them that they work for the people of America? Would Romney, with his own aristocratic flair and his own version of Obamacare, be willing to curtail the reach of the aristocrats into our lives? Would politician-turned-talk show host Huckabee be willing to rein in the very people who supported him in his political life? Sarah Palin is one of few politicians who have fearlessly taken on the establishment, both Democrat and Republican, with a consistent message about the enforcement of the constitution and the returning of government to the people.
However, the need to curtail the aristocracy isn't the only issue that drives the need for President Palin. There are other lesser-known politicians who have taken on the establishment, such as Chris Christie. However, only Palin has shown the charisma and powerful speaking skills that can pack an auditorium to a sold-out crowd ten minutes after announcement. Unlike Obama, Palin is an old-style speaker, referring to her notes and adding in her own personal touches. She doesn't usually need a teleprompter because she believes what she says. Most politicians, on the other hand, say what they feel is popular at the time; their speeches are carefully prepared by experts and preened to play to the latest polling data. Palin is a rare person in politics who speaks from the heart.
Mrs. Palin also has a unique trait that comes with few politicians of our time. That is the ability to see that the law is done regardless of her personal beliefs. Personally, I am an agnostic and libertarian, and when I see that she vetoed a law that denied benefits to same-sex couples in Alaska -- not because of her religious beliefs, but because it was unconstitutional according to the Alaskan constitution -- I stand up and cheer. A governor putting her beliefs first would approve the law and take their chances with the court, but Palin chose the novel path of obeying her oath of office. A president is a servant of the people charged with enforcing the constitution and protecting the people from all enemies of the USA. It is not for the president or a governor to "interpret" or otherwise circumvent the law. When asked about the veto, Palin responded that if people wish to change the constitution, then there is a process for that.
While Mrs. Palin is a deeply religious woman, she doesn't try to press that on the rest of us. I can go to see her speak and leave comfortably feeling that my agnostic conservative friends are not being marginalized. This is something I can't say about other major conservative public figures such as Glenn Beck. Although I have many beliefs in common with Beck, when he goes on the religious tangent, I am left feeling very uncomfortable in my agnosticism, as if those of us who are conservative agnostic or perhaps atheists are lacking in morality. On the other hand, Mrs. Palin manages to inject her religious beliefs into her speech without inspiring offense or implying moral superiority over those of other views.
Another trait that sets Mrs. Palin aside from the rest of the pack is her devotion to America. Mrs. Palin speaks with pride and joy about the unique place that is the United States of America. I can't see her cutting down our troops, declaring our culpability for the world's woes, or berating the people of America for being stupid, or throwing a tantrum, as others in the media and politics have done. Palin would be a strong figure in international politics and a tough president to those who would do America harm. Palin is utterly fearless, willing to take on her own party, the other party, the Federal Reserve, and anyone else who needs to be taken on to forward the interest of America.
Finally, Mrs. Palin is an intelligent and savvy person. The liberal media and establishment Republicans have spent two years trying to alternately paint her as stupid or Machiavellian. They can't seem to make up their mind whether she is smart and evil or dumb and incredibly lucky. Neither strategy has worked. As Palin's knowledge of policy, economics, and government has grown, so has the counter-story being put out by the establishment. Thanks to the internet, people can look up Palin's past, listen to her speeches, and examine her record; the need to rely on the "big three" news services has been supplanted by the internet. Furthermore, on those same sites, Palin's foes have been revealed as nasty, misogynistic, and potentially violent people. Through just being Palins, Palin and her family have exposed the hatred of the left,
I won't be a bit surprised if Sarah Palin doesn't particularly want to be president, and I can think of a million reasons why she would not want to run. However, I cant imagine anyone else who would be able to pull us out of the mess we are in, reign in the aristocracy, encourage our allies, intimidate our enemies, and believe what she says while doing it all. President Palin wouldn't merely encourage young women by being the first female president; she would be a great president. Palin is not Reagan, but she could be just as great as Reagan.
I am sorry, Sarah Palin, but we need you to serve -- and for that, we need you to run.
Jindal is a sweet guy, but has the charisma of a toad. Unelectable and can’t debate.
LOL!
Daniels Endorses McCain
Friday, February 23, 2007
INDIANAPOLIS
Republican presidential hopeful John McCain has received the endorsement of Gov. Mitch Daniels. "John McCain is a long-time friend. More importantly, he is a principled leader with a history of integrity, opposing excessive government spending and dealing honestly with the American people," Daniels said Thursday in a written statement. Daniels, a Republican, told reporters last week that he has known the Arizona senator since McCain was a Navy captain. Before being elected governor in 2004, Daniels held several positions in Washington D.C., including federal budget director for President George W. Bush, and was a senior vice president at drug maker Eli Lilly and Co. "Mitch is an impressive businessman and public servant who understands that common sense conservative principles and more effective government go hand-in-hand," McCain said in a statement. "Having the support of Mitch Daniels is important, and I look forward to honoring our common values as I move ahead in this process." The endorsement announcement was made by McCain's presidential exploratory committee.
Know before you post.
Mitch Daniels is a typical faux conservative. If Mitt Romney implodes, I’m sure Peggy Noonan will jump all over Mitch as her replacement savior.
It will once again be a happy day in America.
Ouch. That’s going to leave a mark. LOL
At least he didn’t make the mistake of running as his VP.
Imagine that - a citizen acting on their own interpretation of the constitution and not relying on a court to tell them what to think - exactly the sort of person I'd want on a jury.
Everything I Need to Know About Sarah Palin, I Learned From Sir Ernest Shackleton
On July 3rd, 2009, Sarah Palin resigned as Governor of Alaska, and nailed the following sign to her door:
Men Wanted For Hazardous Journey. Small wages. Bitter cold. Long months of complete darkness. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success.
This, the most famous newspaper advertisement ever penned, placed its original author, Sir Ernest Shackleton, in the position of having to select the crew for an Antarctic expedition from among the 5,000 men the ad brought to his office. Comparing Sara Palin to the greatest explorer in history might appear to stretch the limits of metaphorical license, even for an Irishwoman given to hyperbole. I contend, however, that it pales when compared to likening a revolutionary idealist with two weeks of Presidential experience, to Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Theresa, or Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I believe that Sarah Palin, will be the next President of the United States, and that the secret to her success can, oddly enough, be found in characteristics she shares with one of the greatest Explorers of modern history, Sir Ernest Shackleton.
On December 5th, 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton set sail for the Weddell Sea in a ship that was fate-temptingly named, Endurance. Having participated in two unsuccessful expeditions to reach the South Pole, the immortal British explorer was returning to the land of ice that he loved in order to traverse Antarctica. Though Shackleton would not ultimately accomplish the crossing of the frozen continent, his Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, would honor the parchment of history with some of the most awe-inspiring events ever recorded. The Endurance, belying her proud name, fell victim to the treacherous ice floes that clawed their way earlier and further north than usual. After weeks aboard the ice-encased ship, Shackleton gave the order to abandon Her, and the crew established camp on the ice. They watched in anguish as their only means of returning home was finally crushed and sought its place in the graveyard of the sea.
Having presided over the funeral of his ship, Shackleton addressed his crew, Men, since our ship and supplies are gone, I suggest we go home. The evident absurdity of this proposal was apparent to all, and perhaps to the boss himself. But, ice, freezing temperatures, lack of provisions, impending winter, and absence of transportation, were just logistical details to be navigated. Shackletons men trusted him implicitly. They instinctively perceived that elusive quality we rarely apprehend in our fellow man, that combination of sound judgment, courage, moral rectitude, and empathy, that are the unmistakable elements of a true leader.
Shackleton determined that he was not going to let his men bloody die. Having made their rescue, and no longer a stroll across Antarctica, his unique goal, the minor trifle that his endeavor was hopelessly unattainable was simply not worthy of consideration. The crew of the Endurance lived on the ice for four months, spent five days rowing three small lifeboats across the open ocean, and set up camp on Elephant Island, a small cluster of rock and thin beach. Knowing that his men would never be rescued from Elephant Island, Shackleton set out in one of the life boats with four other men, in a desperate and utterly ludicrous attempt to reach South Georgia. For fifteen days, five virtually frozen, starved men rowed preposterously towards a speck on the map.
No one could actually survive in a lifeboat for two weeks on the frozen ocean. Nor could they land on a speck, and undertake thirty-five hours of highly technical mountain climbing and hiking, before reaching the South Georgian whalers. Even if such mythology could come true, one could not arrange, in the middle of winter and a war, a successful rescue of the men left on Elephant Island who, by any sane estimation, must have long passed to a warmer world (hopefully, a world not too much the warmer!)
But you see, Shackleton had decided that not a single man in his care would die, so his certain failure, at any stage of this breathtaking mission was simply never a factor in his calculations. Shackleton did arrive at the whaling station, he did return to Elephant Island, and he did not let a single man bloody die. The crew of the Endurance would have undoubtedly perished on the ice of Antarctica, were it not for the leadership of Sir Ernest Shackleton. I sincerely believe that Sarah Palin possesses those same characteristics and that she will press forward, ignoring obstacles, inspiring her supporters and, as President, not let the Country bloody die.
It is obvious that the election of Sarah Palin as the next President is absolutely impossible. Not only is she consistently attacked and misrepresented in the media and by the majority of opinion makers, but even in the Republican Party, her own ship, she is considered something of an Jonah, better to be thrown to the sea. The Endurance is a perfect image of Sarahs political career, as it sank beneath the weight of external belligerence and the unrelenting, grinding pressure of her opponents. Her prospects were also mangled by the internal betrayal of former supporters and promoters because of their desperate need to pin their own failures on a woman they underestimated and deemed expendable. Like Sir Ernest, one can literally picture Sarah surveying the wreckage, and it is precisely in this moment that we see her leadership emerge.
Sarah knows what the Tea Party Patriots know. Only a real conservative will reach the harbor of the White House, if there is to be a new administration in 2012. The concepts of love of God, love of Country, love of family, love or our troops and commitment the War on Terror, fearless denunciation of Communist Chinas human-rights violations, faith in our free-market, faith in American self-reliance and independence were not slogans she used to get a job in Washington, but deeply held personal values. These values are the future of our country. Sarah, without a moment wasted on disdain for those who tell her that her endeavor to bring these values to the White House is futile, has already started dragging the lifeboats of American conservative principles across the frozen wasteland of a triumphant Marxist administration, and her own virtually-emasculated Party that wants nothing to do with her cargo of gritty, Reagan conservatism.
When the ice disintegrates, that is, when the last remnants of support from the GOB (Good Old Boys Party) finally abandon her, Sarah will put to sea in her boats and go on alone, alone, that is, with those millions and millions of supporters who were brought by her, in 2008, from a state of near despondency, to a storm of enthusiasm, the expression of which shocked the Nation and eclipsed the vapid haranguing of the opposition. Sir Ernests conviction that he would not fail was so clear and strong, that his men believed that he would bring them home. The crew also loved and followed Shackleton because they saw that he was one of them, that he shared their sufferings and their hard work.
One day during the campaign, Sarah got off the bus, went into Wal-Mart and bought store-brand diapers and a toy for her little boy with Downs Syndrome. I compare this to Michelle Obama, in numerous Antoinettian vignettes, wearing five hundred dollar sneakers to serve soup, shutting down the Beltway to put organic lettuce in her market-basket, and donning a New York fashion-week belt to commiserate with women who could not afford Tylenol for their children. While the elites wrote Sarah off as unsophisticated, the ordinary people reveled in her leading by example, sensing a simple life that embodied her spoken principles.
It is impossible that any political figure can withstand the battering from elements, both external and internal, that Sarah Palin has endured, yet unlike Shackletons ship, she remains. Like Sir Ernest, she continues, she follows her own compass. I am looking forward with veritable glee to the next months. Constantly given up for lost, she will continue the hazardous journey. Fellow Republicans will look, not only to GM (Goebbels Media,) but to their own moth-eaten, comfortable Admirals, back in the officers club, and shake their heads at her doubtful safe return. They will have their wigs powered and raise money for both the plastic and the absurd chameleons we, a dozen times, cringed to call leader, and only tolerated as the lesser of two evils. At their rallies, all two hundred compromisers will take a pinch of snuff and congratulate themselves that they have someone that will not upset the independents and the moderates.
Meanwhile, the people will answer Sarahs advertisement and sign on for the hazardous journey. She will continue to draw thousands of willing crew members, as she did during the 2008 Campaign, when venues needed to be enlarged to accommodate those who wished to express their support for all she represented. Of course, we hope that the leaders of the GOB will get off the ice before it is too late. Hopefully they will not be left behind to sink into the oblivion of history because of petty jealousy or because they were so ignorant of what the Tea Party Radicals, truly want. It will be good if they have enough love of country to leave their personal effects at camp, get on board and help row.
As for the honor and recognition in case of success, the only honor and recognition we hope for, in supporting this intrepid woman, is that of our children and all those who will benefit, because of Sarah Palins leadership, from the safe harbor of a truly free America.
Palin Shackleton 2012.
And ruling AGAINST her own faith - that’s the heroism of it. That’s truly respecting the Constitition.
Why not Sarah Palin? LOL. I really don’t see Jindal bringing in the fundraising and having the crowds Palin can muster. I like Jindal, but he also cannot run for President because he is NOT a Natural Born Citizen (born in america by 2 citizen parents)
No, Daniels made the worse mistake of endorsing McCain for president, EARLY, one year before the primaries, and before all the candidates were in the race.
By the way if you want to be taken seriously, then why round off 31 months down to 24 months?
So you support Mitch Daniels’ VAT tax and gas tax hikes?
I do in many aspects as well. I wasn’t paying near as close attention when Reagan was running as I am now but I am as a lot of us worried about electability.
I believe Sarah would be a tremendous POTUS but does she have the ability to pull in the independents/moderates to take it to the bank?
The forces against her are substantial and from several fronts.....media, Rinos, establishment Rep and Dems and the progressive wombats....tough road to hoe.
With the country spiraling down into bankruptcy, social issues are at the bottom of all polls I have seen recently. The next nominee will win on fiscal sanity, not social purity.
It appeared, from reports and polls that there was a healthy mix of indies and dems in the TEA crowds. She seemed all right with them. Yes, she will have to educate a lot of indies and dems to pull this off.
