Health Reform Error Could Cost Children’s Hospitals
The Volokh Conspiracy ^ | November 26, 2010 | Jonathan H. Adler

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi famously remarked that Congress had to pass health care reform legislation so that Americans could “find out what is in it.” The latest discovery of what’s inside the health care reform legislation is a drafting error that could increase drug costs at children’s hospitals by millions of dollars. The Boston Globe reports:

The error was a simple and unintentional omission in the final, frenetic days of drafting the landmark legislation and reconciling House and Senate versions. Congressional staff intended to allow children’s hospitals continued access to the portion of a federal program that offers below-market prices on 347 specific medicines for rare, life-threatening conditions. But that language was accidentally altered. . . ."

We continue to discover what our Democrat legislators themselves failed to READ in the ridiculous health "care" bill they voted to pass.

None of these are "accidents". These little law mines are in place for a reason: To allow the legislators to go back and "fix" the problems with more laws and regulations under the cover of "we need to fix our mistake".

Oh please, from the top guy whose ‘death-care’ plan could NOT discern the ‘spirit’ of an old American granny's will to live, would only offer from his appointed diviners, (I mean commission) that ‘pills instead of procedures’ would be allocated for these old American grannys...

I do not think anyone alder anything.

Given the recent elections, they are not likely to make it worse now....

Personally, I am still hoping that this bill will be put down LEGALLY.

BS!!!!!!

This legislation was written long before it was introduced and Podesta’s bunch knew all along what was in it. So, now that we have read it, they blame the warts all through this thing on they didn’t have the time to read it first?

BS!!!!!

Oh no, it was “read.” Recall that Harry Reid hired a speed reader to stand there and read the whole thing, showing TOTAL CONTEMPT FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. This is what he thinks of us. Still, he managed to get reelected. Amazing and incredible.

“Still, he managed to get reelected. Amazing and incredible.”

Indeed! Union involvement aside...those who voted for him had better wake up!!!!

Actually, union members had also better wake up!

It’s probably too much to hope for, but do you think any bleeding heart, mind-numbed hospital workers, administrators and parents affected by this abomination might decide not to vote Democrat next time.

Probably too much to hope for, now that I think about it.

You are absolutely correct. This is in keeping with the 'ethical' premise behind ZeroCare - all society's medical resources should be concentrated on those between 14 and 40. 'Death panels' are not only for those who are older.

My honest thoughts are that ....things are going to have to get much worse for that kind of change to take place.

You are entirely too charitable. These "errors" were made deliberately to HURT CHILDREN, HURT THE ELDERLY, HURT THE HANDICAPPED.

That's what this regime is about ~ sadomasochism, larceny and manslaughter.

Yes, you are correct. In fact, this bill is going to increase costs in all hospitals in a huge variety of ways.

Absolutely! I wonder how long it will be before Reid’s supporters experience buyer’s remorse.

In another year or so, I think we may begin to see more of that remorse displayed. In the meantime, we all need to continue to pray for our great nation! Seriously...

They can’t fix it. The way the bill is written, if you change any part of it, the whole thing becomes invalid. I don’t have a reference, but I read that here on FR and I heard it on talk radio. They wrote it that way so if the Republicans gained power they couldn’t tinker with the bill. I guess the Dems thought repeal of the entire thing was out of the question. I hope they were wrong.

[I.e.: most bills come with a provision that explicitly states part of it can be altered without changing the rest of the bill. They left hat clause out of this bill on purpose.]

Part of Obama’s bribe to Big Pharma to get them on board, no doubt. Who cares about sick little kids when the goal of controlling the life and death of the citizenry by Leftist government is at stake?

If the SCOTUS would get off its’ butt and do its’ job this would all be avoided.
