A city police officer assigned to Mayor Michael Bloomberg's security detail has been charged for allegedly shooting a man while off-duty. The New York City Police Department says Leopold McLean, 46, has been charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and criminal use of a firearm.

He was held on $10,000 bail.

Investigators say McLean shot his girlfriend's former boyfriend, Lepaul Gammons, on November 15th when Gammons showed up at her Queens home in violation of a restraining order.

Court papers say McLean pointed a handgun at Gammons, who asked if McLean was going to shoot him. McLean reportedly lowered the gun, told Gammons he had something for him and reached down toward his ankle.

Prosecutors say McLean, a 17 year veteran of the force, fired at Gammons as he ran away, hitting him in the buttocks.

Believe it or not, might be justified. (Everywhere except NYC)

Best regards,

I wonder if the “victim” was charged with violating the order of restraint. I’m also curious about two other things - did the cop made the idiotic mistake of speaking to the popo without his lawyer present, and how far away was the “victim” when he was injured. Point blank gives a lot more flexibility to the shooter, than does a shot from 20 or 30 yards.

If he had a restraining order against him, he had no business being there.

However the LEO should know you have to shoot them from the front and claim they were after you.

Very unlikely. The responding cops always take a cop that’s a shooter to the hospital. The Patrolman’s Benevolent Assoc has a law firm on retainer for this type of thing.

You know why good humor works, right?

Apparently you don’t know that many cops carry “ham sandwiches” as a regular rule. Hint - they aren’t actual ham sandwiches. Just ask the New Orleans PD about ham sandwiches.

Right on.

McLean reaches toward his ankle ‘cause he “has something” for the moron.

Running like hell was the smartest thing the moron ever did.

In that ankle holster would have been a real going-away present.

Bloomy should just make murder illegal.

So BloombergEizengrapenstatz hired a murderer to protect his Nazi ass.

It won’t help.

When it’s time to hang traitors, Bloomschnitzel will be at the front of the line, and there ain’t a damn thing he can do about it.

Bloomy should just make murder illegal.

Been saying that for years. Call it late postpartum abortion. The fine would be $100 for practicing medicine without a license.

Thanks The Magical Mischief Tour. I'm sure Bloomberg feels safer already.
