You might want to post this article or a similar one. Looks as if South Korea is going hawkish.

South Korea names security adviser as defense minister

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korean President Lee Myung-bak appointed his security adviser as new defense minister on Friday, Korean media reported, as tensions rise after a deadly artillery attack by North Korea and an impending joint military exercise with the United States.

Lee Hee-Won, the new minister, is a career military man who advocates a "smart" military able to anticipate and react quickly to North Korea's unpredictable moves

We don’t know how tough a guy he is. If he just likes to obey the current Pres, he may not be effective. After all, Defense Minister quit yesterday because he was fed up with covering for Pres. and his aides.

In a Bloomberg article a source called the new Defense Minister hyper-hawkish. But that same person also called the current President hawkish.

SK faces the threat of destruction from the North and they’re called “hawkish.” Why do dictatorships always escape accountability for their aggression?

It is being reported on Philippines television a special envoy will travel to Seoul to coordinate the evacuation of OFW’s from South Korea. The envoy stated 15 minutes ago he will stay until all evacuations are completed.

He said everything is in the planning stage and no evacuation has been ordered.

He stated Japan was officially asked to be the conduit for departures.

And just yesterday I read that there were no plans at all to evacuate Filipinos. This situation gets worse every hour now.

Philippine Coast Guard commandant Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said they were ready to help evacuate 60,000 Filipinos in South Korea in the event of a full-blown war.

“If we are asked and if there is a need, we would help,” Tamayo said.

I didn't know either so did a search for "OFW".

...Most overseas Filipino migrate to other nations to find employment or support their families in the Philippines. As a result of this migration, many countries have a substantial Filipino community.

Often, these Filipinos are referred to as "Overseas Filipino Workers" or "OFWs".

Now we have word that someone else was named Defense Minister. Confusing.

Kim Kwan-jin Named New South Korea Defense Minister

Kim Kwan-jin has been named the new South Korea Defense Minister, after the resignation of Kim Tae-young. Young was asked to resign just after North Korea bombarded South Korea. The government and many people in the political ground did not like the way he reacted to the situation and eventually he was asked to resign.
