Thank you for posting this--it was my husband's favorite hymn. And one of mine, too, from the time I was a kid watching "Navy Log". (Yeah--I'm OLD!)IIRC--when there was a particulary sad episode, they would play this hymn rather than the regular show's theme song (I still remember the tune)--and it so moved me. Just as did so many of the episodes of "Victory at Sea". How powerful a message those shows gave--of a nation PROUD of being a defender of freedom.
Now the history our kids are taught is so biased against this view of American exceptionalism that they think our leaders are being "noble" when they become weak-kneeded apologists for appeasement.
"Lord have mercy!"
That hymn was one of my top favorites as a child, and it remains so today. Sends chills up my spine, it does.
