A much anticipated meeting between Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and executives from the oil and gas industries failed to lead to much progress, as both sides expressed frustration with the outcome of Monday's meeting aimed at diffusing simmering tensions in the wake of the BP oil spill.
Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La) set up the meeting with Salazar, industry executives, and regional lawmakers in order to address frustrations the industry has with the Obama administration's new rules and regulations for offshore oil and natural gas drilling - rules that were put in place after the BP oil spill earlier this year. Landrieu secured the meeting by agreeing to release a legislative hold she had placed on President Obama's budget director nominee.
Obama lifted his moratorium on offshore drilling several months ago, but put in place strict new rules on drilling operations, making it difficult to obtain permits for new wells and imposing stringent safety measures. Some lawmakers and industry executives have said the new rules have created a convoluted, uncertain process.
"We recognize that we have some difficult issues to work through," Salazar told reporters after the meeting in Houma, La. The Interior Department released a readout of the meeting, in which Salazar pledged to continue to work to ensure that industry representatives understood the rules - and stressed that safety was a priority.

Ya think?
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
This administration will stop any explorationa nd drilling any tim eits politically convenient to them with complete disregard for the oil c9ompanies and the people they employ. The oil companies know this and no amount of BS is going to make them think otherwise.
Safety of the oil, and keeping it unused and underground, is the priority.
A big reason to drill deeply offshore is due to not being able to drill in the best places on land, and increasing regulations to near shore drilling... so drillers have have to go further offshore.
not one penny appropriated for DOE after January
ROAD BLOCKS and nothing else is what is coming from this administration. Their actions have taken the form of a sit-in against drilling.
The administration has brought at least 25 “investigators” into the BOEMRE to find someone doing something, anything, “wrong” and plans to persecute the bureaucrats. That is correct, persecute, not prosecute. As a result, the bureaucrats will not willingly approve anything at all. A perfect plan by saladbar and obastard... rule by intimidation.
The national academy of science report from November 17 is a first class mess of half truths that intend to impose upon the oil industry processes that may work fine in the defined confines of a nuclear plant but not in the uncertainty of the earth. The arrogance of these people who pretend to be expert on everything and especially on telling those of us with three or four decades of competent and safe conduct of operations makes me retch. Nothing but a bunch of paid, political prostitutes.
In the 25 page report at least five pages were spent giving the credentials of the board. All accomplished in some field other than oil and gas drilling but one who bought his phd and is nothing more than a lose cannon mostly reviled by his industry peer group.
BP is the gift that keeps on giving. I was asked by an official how we are going to engineer our wells to prevent another BP disaster. I replied that we can’t do anything because you can’t fix stupid. BP people acted stupidly and are led by management equal to the task.
As for this administration, you can’t fight ignorance or evil in authority. Your only choice is to eliminate them.

Oh, wow. Things are worse than I thought. Legislative concessions in order to get on a functionary’s calander?
This should leave no doubt whatsoever that saladbar is noting but an obastard puppet. Nothing but a political tool / hack.
It goes without saying that the oil industry is being persecuted by a bunch of envirowacks.
A total Government Shutdown is sounding better every day.
Senor Salazar is one of the WORST things Obama foisted on us.

Why am i not surprised?
not one penny appropriated for DOE after January”
How about cutting Salazar off at the knees & going after HIS department—Dept of Interior?
Why doesn't this bozo get to work on those difficult issues like NOW?
