"Don't fly." That's Janet Napolitano's answer to those who oppose the regime of poke and grope that is today's Transportation Safety Agency. America is, after all, a land of choices. When you arrive at the airport, you can allow some complete stranger to irradiate you with a device that allows the operator to see you naked. Or you can allow some friendly security agent to put hands in places where they have no business. Or you can drive.
Before you jump out of line and into your car, however, be warned that you can be fined up to $11,000 for changing your mind at the airport. After all, we wouldn't want terrorists with hand grenades walking away from the screening area when they realize that all the rumors about metal detectors and such are true. If you're going to take Secretary Napolitano's advice, be sure that you opt not to fly before you reach the airport.
The problem with this "if you can't stand the pat-down, get out of the terminal" attitude lies in its future. For now, Janet Napolitano says that "if people want to travel by some other means, they have that right." That seems reasonable enough on the surface, but is air travel the only option vulnerable to this sort of reasoning?

Works for me. Lets see how long it takes before the airline industry scream "Uncle". But perhaps that is the plan, since the guvermint has already taking over most of the private industry, this would be a great way to add the airlines to their system.

Did you even consider the economic impact? Nah! Democrats never do.
1. Cavity searches for non-muslims at airports, train stations and bus boarding stations.
2. Stop-and-search of motorists on interstate highways and at border crossings between states.
3. For those who refuse groping at airports, permanent entry onto no-fly lists, which also forecloses the opportunity to purchase firearms, receive health care, etc.
Our society allows police to subject individuals even to abusive intrusions when such actions are deemed reasonable responses to actions. They stop a speeding car. They search with reasonable suspicion based on specific and demonstrable facts. They subdue and even kill a citizen in response to escalating levels of violence.
However, TSA bureaucrats are allowed intimate, primal domination of people when they have done nothing to elicit the behavior. The massive, random and warrantless program of body scanners and pat downs creates an environment for institutionalizing the worst demons of the human condition.
This country has before and should not again, suffer the consequences of allowing one group of people dominion over another, when submission was not provoked by the other party’s uncivil behavior. In The Life and Times of Fredrick Douglas, he believed that slavery perpetrated as much emotional and psychological damage on the owner as the slave.
The Homeland Security approach contrasts sharply to the disparaged NSA program for warrantless intrusion into private communications, where analysts sought a handful of useful leads from the 60 to 100 billion calls per day. Their standards first passed a Fourth Amendment test, and then focused on much narrower parameters to find signals of interest.
For the NSA probability and statistics enabled approaches, which are otherwise condemned as profiling. TSA should be allowed enhanced surveillance methods, when their rules focus on actions and characteristics denoting responses with a higher probability for terrorist actions.
hate to point this out to all you MADD supporters out there...we started down the slippery slope the day SCOTUS said it was OK to have random DUI highway checkpoints.
What is happening is the establishment of a government force of low capable people to control the airline industry. Think of ‘brown shirts’ in bygone Germany.The policing power of these people is very strange. Just as strange is the acquiescence of so many people to the actions of these ‘police’. When will people realize and what will it take to realize that the people and production of this Nation are being herded like has been to other nations. Hopefully, the spirit of ‘76’ prevents similar results.

7. Before attending any public event, parade, or celebration.
If the Airline Pilots were on America’s side, this could be handled overnight. Every Airline Pilot that happens to have a Member of Congress or Government Official on his or her plane needs to demand that they be removed to assure the safety of this flight, these people did not go thru the regular screening process like everyone else, therefore they should not be allowed to fly. Inform the passengers of your intentions up front, they will assist you in having said government agent removed from the plane. The pilot of an aircraft is the SOLE AND FINAL AUTHORITY of the safety of the flight.

Sounds like a good point to me.
I heard on talk radio this morning that Janet was interviewed by Charlie Rose yesterday. She was alleged to say that the x-ray scanners will also be installed to screen passengers of ships, trains and buses. Can anyone confirm this? On one hand, the government is trying to pry us out our cars; on the other hand, all public transport will be screened and they will be frying us daily with their x-rays. A total violation of our privacy, dignity and health. Can we revolt now?
We’ve been putting up with roadblocks and checkpoints instigated by the MADD mothers for decades. They can take your blood or your breath with no warrant. No wonder they think we will put up with more such intrusions as those airport scanners and searches.
You are NOT free to move about the country.
I wonder if El Al would begin a US commuter service. Really good idea!
Arent they subject to the same stupid TSA screenings at their US terminals?
