Well,lets just say you are some Muslim jihadist expecting an attack from a front line American unit—not special forces-just regular infantry grunts.

Who do you fear most and who do you want to kill most?

If a particular infantry organization has a general reputation of being superior and does nothing to detract from that heritage,it is,by default,a special force.

Look,I was a Navy Airman during the Vietnam era and I despised the Jarheads because they were full of Texas style BS and couldn't wait for one of us squids to run foul of the regs and end up in THEIR brig for “enhanced special training.”
(They could beat hell out of you back then).

But the brainwashed bastards were pure killing machines and no better warrior to protected your butt. Granted,many army units have excellent histories...they just don't translate worldwide like the Marines.

I, and you, have no idea what a few may or may not have in their heads, so I couldn’t answer that. Nor, would I expect any great decision making clues, from someone’s who’s decided/ fell into/ was attracted to jihadist life style. In short, they’re young, illiterate, uneducated targets in pre corpse mode. You present yourself as an enemy to a Army National Guard infantry unit with a few good NCO’s, you are dead.

When it comes to killing, the Army doesn’t care what the enemy thinks. Once it’s ducks are in a row, it just kills you nice and methodical, no drama. The Army is a very civil engineering influenced institution, and is at it core a depopulating and deconstructing organization. ( The Army song is about road and hauling logistics( caissons keep rolling along ), the Marines about past, colorful heroics ).

So, to back question you back. If you are a nation size state, or continental size power, who’s going to grind your precious Armies, then Corps, then divisions by the millions dead, and span your thousand miles of empire?

Who’s going to rain down, if need be, nuclear land to land missiles and artillery( nothing fancy, but effective ). The Army. Who’s going to command air, and near space to shoot down your missiles? Not the Marines. The Army. Who’s going to chew up your armed division? Army.

To an extent, all shock troops, Marines, Rangers, the German ‘Storm Troops’, before them, Grenadiers, were all a little brainwashed. That’s what young males are really really good for. They want to believe, and armies have a need for males in need of a belief.

Anyways, to a certain point, guys, miltaryies go with what they got. If you are a illiterate, snuffy, you say God is on your side( although the WWI Germans had that on their belt buckles ). If you got boat loads of 155, then you fire off for a week or two and walk through the dust that smells of rotting flesh. If you are going to be dumped off a boat, or a LZ with bad/weak/bs intel, they tell you you are special.

Don Alejo seems to have been a man for all seasons; Thank God there are still a few around like him. I suspect he’s relaxing at a very nice ranch right now and the bullying thugs and thieves that tried to steal his land and got a nice surprise instead are in a very hot and uncomfortable place.
