Chavez Responds to Pres. Obama: We Would 'Eat Socialist Arepas' Together

CARACAS, Venezuela - During his most recent blanket television broadcast, Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez took the opportunity to embrace President Obama, inviting him to join him in the construction of a new world order. Chávez was responding to President Obama's recent quip about diverting Air Force One in order to pay Caracas a visit. Leaving a NATO summit in Portugal, the president joked, according to a tweet by CBS reporter Mark Knoller, about having "AF-1 fly home via South America so he could visit Hugo Chavez." "Well, Obama, if you said that," Chávez remarked, "we'll receive you here. I'd shake your hand again." ... Chávez went on, jovially stating that, were Obama to pay him a visit, both leaders would “sit down to talk, to eat socialist arepas,” a corn-based pancake popular in the country.

Eat socialist arepas, eh?

What’s an arepa?

They can take those socialist Arepas and shove them where the sun don’t shine. Our president is a freaking idiot. The laughing stock of the U.S. and the rest of the world. Except for Africa, they still love him. Maybe he could move back to the country where he was born.

Cool... I’ll put it right here in this basket underneath the sink, the same place I put the old arugula.

Arepas are corn pancakes sorta like pupusas. They’re quite yummy and can be matched with just about anything. I like mine either stuffed or covered with crab meat and hollandaise sauce!

They are really pretty good, if made correctly. If you are familiar with Mexican food, they are similar to a gordita. If not, think of a very thick corn tortilla, cooked on a griddle until it puffs up, split and filled with goodies such as cheese, salsa, picadillo, sliced roast beef, chicken/avocado, chicharon, beans, chorizo, scrambled eggs, or just plain with stew or soup. It is basically a corn bread. They are non-political.

That is Venezuelan corn pone. By the time Obama gets through wrecking the economy we will be lucky to get any kind of arepas.

I had one at a local taco truck that was stuffed with spinach, mozzarella, garlic, basil, bacon, and a poached egg. It was simply divine.

I really enjoy them, and they’re easy to make. At least the plain arepa is.

Arepa’s are yummy. In fact I just finished eating one for breakfast. Arepas are the staple bread in South American cuisine, not just Venezuela. It’s just a corn cake made from a special corn meal. It’s a simple comfort food.
