My own opinion FWIW (not much).

I agree with Joe Baron on several points. Ulsterman is a scam, We have been had. We suspected it, but it was a fun ride.

I also agree this isn't about politics. Ulsterman used politics as a way of getting hits from us (and other conservative sites) It takes legwork, but after a while, one begins to see a pattern if you will of how ulsterman and other triond members spread through the web pimping their own articles and the other articles of others. Once you figure that out, you can go back through the threads and see how unsuspecting posters are drawn into the web. It might not pay the mortgage, but it could be good pocket change.

There is more than one way to pimp a blog. But I am not the blog police, I'll leave that to someone else. :-)

It is interesting to go back through the threads to discern the honest pings from the pimp pings and then follow it up with a web search.

If this is all a hoax, it may have backfired on the hoaxster.

Some of the allegations made into mainstream news. Did legit reporters get off-the-record staffers to confrirm some things, like Obama taking meds, because they thought that others had already made the first outing?

Now they're talking about Robert Gibbs leaving. Was any of that accelerated because of these alleged leaks?

Any other examples of people acting on belief that this was real?

The stories were out there. I had heard about Gibbs possibly leaving after the first of the year a while ago. UM took it to a new level by attributing what was already out there (real or speculation) to one specific person. What came first, the chicken or the egg?

The pimping is probably a process which has evolved over time. Once they realized linking to their sites was no longer welcome, they figured out ways to get around it.

Just wanted to follow up that I do have conclusive proof that Anthony G. Martin is Ulsterman. On Twitter, somebody asked him if he had any Ulsterman updates and on November 23rd, he said "I did not do an Ulsterman story today." I have a screen capture of that here: For your enjoyment Sure enough, there was an Ulsterman article written on the 22nd and 24th, but not one on the 23rd. I have a picture showing that too if you'd like to see it. So he's flat out saying "I didn't write an Ulsterman article today." It's pretty clear. So hopefully that's of interest to somebody.

Earlier up thread I mentioned my loathing for being played, a personal issue meaning nothing in the big picture.

One of the biggest mistakes we can make is hitching our wagons to the wrong horse (or whatever the cliche is).. We sabotage ourselves blindly following what we want to be true as opposed to facts. We allow ourselves to be sabotaged following misinformation deliberately placed to distract us.

Either way, unless we proceed on facts instead of speculation we damage our credibility. It is easier for others to paints us as loons. It is easy to be caught up looking for the questions which fit our answers. Those are the times I need to step back and remind myself we are searching for the truth regardless of where it leads. That is not to say I don't have my own theories; I can speculate with the best. The trick is keeping the speculation out of the conclusions.

Very well said. My pet peeve is these new media “the ends justify the means” types who believe that perpetrating a hoax is acceptable if they lobby public opinion in the way they deem just. And thanks to the internet, they’re all over the place.

And to the other commenter who said he’s referencing his article about Ulsterman: i posted a comment on Anthony’s Examiner articles with a link to the picture, and he failed to respond, then he deleted the comment. Seeing as he has responded to everything else I’ve said, I think my interpretation was the correct one.
