His rhetoric is getting tougher each hour, it seems. The guy must be feeling the heat from general public, especially conservatives. They now consider him a traitor. However, the rhetoric is one thing and the action is quite another. Until bombs hit their target.

Nov 23 (Reuters) - South Korea said it was conducting regular military drills off the west coast before North Korea started firing dozens of shells, but that its firing exercises did not aim to the North.

Interesting. At any rate, once the shooting starts, time to make sure you win.

To call the North Koreans subhumans is an insult to animals everywhere!

SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) — President Lee Myung-bak ordered his military Tuesday to punish North Korea for its artillery attacks “through action,” not just words, saying it is important to stop the communist regime from contemplating additional provocation.

“The provocation this time can be regarded as an invasion of South Korean territory. In particular, indiscriminate attacks on civilians are a grave matter,” a stern-faced Lee said during a visit to the headquarters of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in central Seoul.

.................

I’m confused. He has ordered the military to punish NK through action, not words. But it seems the ‘action’ is just a threat to punish them if they do something again?

Hang on.....

*rubbing my eyes*

Is this some kind of mistranslation or am I seeing things?

....................

"Reckless attacks on South Korean civilians are not tolerable, especially when South Korea is providing North Korea with humanitarian aid," the president said. "As for such attacks on civilians, a response beyond the rule of engagement is necessary. Our military should show this through action rather than an administrative response" such as statements or talks, he added. "Given that North Korea maintains an offensive posture, I think the Army, the Navy and the Air Force should unite and retaliate against (the North's) provocation with multiple-fold firepower," Lee said. "I think enormous retaliation is going to be necessary to make North Korea incapable of provoking us again."

I think he is panicking a bit, after his gaffe of "not escalate the situation," earlier in the day. People in SK interpreted this as a defacto capitulation. He has made gaffes from time to time, getting him into trouble, but not on this scale.

The evolution of his rhetoric in last 4~5 hours has been impressive, to say the least. LOL.

Interesting, looks like the fan is about to hit the dung.

Stay frost y’all there, reminds me when Israel was being attacked by SCUDS, had a friend I was communicating on the web with when it was happening.

North Korea cannot maintain a state of readiness for long. Their economy is too weak to support the fuel and rations needed along with getting ill-maintained equipment up to readiness.

Lee said. "I think enormous retaliation is going to be necessary to make North Korea incapable of provoking us again."

I guess we'll see. Recent history suggests a very different reaction. They didn't do anything when their ship and 46 sailors were destroyed. Why would two marines and some houses make a difference?

You got the latest version of his rhetoric. As I said, he made very inappropriate remark initially and now scramble to contain the damage. Now he turned himself into a bona-fide war-monger.:-)
