Some Reasons to Root for The Pistol
As many have noted, Bristol, unlike her competitors, started out with zero performance experience in either showbiz or pro sports. In that sense, she began as the bottom underdog with many obstacles to overcome.
Anyone who has viewed DWTS objectively should see that her performances, overall, have been clearly better than at least half, maybe even as high as 2/3 of the original 12 competitors. Sure, not all of her dances have gone well, but she’s done superbly at times.
She’s worked extremely hard and improved remarkably.
Her performances, overall, have been at least as good as, and many believe better than, likeable Disney star Kyles. Although he, too, outlasted the more highly skilled Brandy because his fan base promoted him to the finals, there wasn’t even a peep of criticism against his supporters. All the venom was heaped on Bristol and her backers. Clearly a double standard.
Another unfair hurdle has been the judges’ scoring. Higher scores have often gone to those who’ve done no better than, and sometimes worse than, Bristol has.
In addition she is, to my knowledge, the only contestant being targeted by extraordinary intimidation tactics, including the sending of envelopes with mysterious white powders and death threats - all of which is designed to mess with her head and mar her performances.
She needs extra viewer votes just to help level the playing field.
While its true that some back her because shes her mothers daughter, its equally true that many hate and ridicule her for the same reason. The political biases on both sides cancel each other out.
Some say votes should be cast solely on the basis of who’s the most technically skilled dancer. Without doubt, Jennifer Grey is the most talented, well-trained and professional dancer of the season.
But this ain’t the Olympics, folks. It’s a dancer popularity contest (the rules say to vote for your “favorite”) and is set in the context of broader pop cultural issues.
So in addition to taking technical dance skills into account, it’s completely reasonable, especially in light of contemporary cultural issues and conflicts, to evaluate performers based on other criteria as well.
Bristol has lately shown the good sense, humility and moral courage to speak out publicly in favor of sexual abstinence before marriage. Rather than taking the easy narcissistic road of self-justification and relativism, she’s changed course and taken the smart stance. Even better, she’s working to influence kids who are being led astray by rejection of Judeo-Christian Biblical values and mandates designed for human protection and wellbeing.
She’s a Christian and a political conservative.
She’s demonstrated extraordinary grace under fire.
For any who have qualms about casting multiple votes, here are the official voting rules: http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/about-voting
Theres no rule against casting multiple votes.
In fact ABC’s voting instructions encourage individuals to do exactly that.
So have at it.
Uh. Governor Palin and Bristol as well are beautiful women. That’s what has the Joy Behar Club’s panties in a wad. That’s the bottom line. Bristol has worked hard, and what little I saw last time, she did a good job. - They seem to have the same bunch of dancers on that show, and it helps their ratings to get in some variety. I know I’ve seen that Audra on there numerous times. Some of them have had very skimpy outfits.
Mainly it will drive the Liberals nuts!
You left out that liberal heads will explode if she wins.
bttt
Great post! I don’t usually watch DWTS, but I tuned in last night and thought Bristol did a fantastic job. Yes, Jennifer Grey is amazing, but I’m rooting for Bristol.
Like her mom said on Sunday on Sarah Palin’s Alaska: “It will get the liberals all wee-wee’d up.” LOL!
It’s a GAME show. D’oh.
Think Survivor, the season where this guy named Matt actually did all kinds of SURVIVAL things that helped not just himself, but his team mates—he was called ‘psycho’ for chopping down trees with a machete and voted ‘off the island’.
This lazy girl who just laid around goofing off and complaining actually won the ‘contest’!
That was the last time I ever watched Survivor.
Have only watched DWTS a few times, but more since Sarah’s been on, advertising her politics and promoting her presidential campaign for 2012! /sarc
;-)
My husband and I were talking about this last night of course Jennifer Grey is the better dancer! But then they bring in old ladies like Florence Henderson and Cloris Leachman who are in their 70’s and somehow this is all about competitive dancing? It’s about dancing and the vote of the fans who they want to win. What is so puzzling about all of this? I hate cry babies!!!!!!
