The problem is that there is no venue where that deal-making can take place and little opportunity for the various conservative candidates to develop and demonstrate the intangible "right stuff" that makes a candidate attractive on the campaign trail. Someone upthread suggested that Sarah might annoint a conservative standard-bearer but how can she know in advance how well her favorite will be received by the rest of us?
