The developers behind the proposed Ground Zero mosque have applied for about $5 million in federal grant money set aside for redeveloping downtown Manhattan after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to a new report.
The application was submitted as a "community and cultural enhancement" grant, which is a program run by the Lower Manhattan Redevelopment Corp.
Developer Sharif El-Gamal discussed the grant proposal in recent closed-door meetings, according to The Daily Beast.
The revelation that the developers have asked for this grant could reignite outrage about the mosque's proposed location.

Great! So we get to pay for their VICTORY mosque!
Is this a great country or what!
Of course if St. Nicholas’ Church applied for the same money it would be rejected on “church-state-separation” grounds. Apparently it is OK to combine mosque and state.
0bammy will see to it personally!
It’s not even a loan!
Looks to me like New Yorkers are, by and large, a self-loathing, self destructive lot. If they had any balls, they would be 1 million deep at the WTC site, demanding the “Victory Mosque” be scrapped.
Even I, the world’s great cynic since the age of 14, could not have anticipated THIS outrage! Interestingly, the mere
proposal or application for a ‘grant’ is premised on the idea that they are already legitimized as a group on equal footing with just about everyone else who can apply for grants, like non-profits, etc.
I must commend them on their shrewdness-—at least on the face of it, they are playing their cards from angles that are bound to appeal to their enablers. From everyone else’s perspective though, this looks like a new and unprecedented form of overreaching.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejads trip to New York City reportedly expanded beyond meeting with foreign dignitaries at the United Nations. According to the New York Post, the Iranian presidents six-night stay also included a secret sit-down with militant Nation of Islam minister Louis Farrakhan and members of the New Black Panther Party:
The president shared a hush-hush meal with Farrakhan and members of the New Black Panther Party Tuesday at the Warwick Hotel on West 54th Street.
The meeting of the podium smackers took place in a banquet room, where the fiery leaders presumably exchanged theories on whats wrong with the world.
Chutzpah is killing your parents and then asking the jury for sympathy because you’re orphans, or flying planes into buildings and then asking for money to open a center that teaches that it’s OK to kill Christians and Jews a short distance from the empty hole that was the buildings that you flew the bleeding planes into.
Exactly and blowhards like Joy and Whoopi are seemingly blind to this Obama double standard. Didn’t Obama just revise (cut funding of) Bushes faith based initistives?
Talk about adding salt to the wound. Holy cow!!!
Thank the sorry bastards that voted for the sob.
I am beginning to think that just living in NY City requires one to have one’s brain removed.

Maybe the friends & family of the dead NYPD/NYFD will et it get 90% built, and blow it to smithereens ;-)
I have read that article twice now. I have always assumed when they use the words “the president’ they are referring to
Ahmadinejad.
But the article goes on and refers to the ‘SECRET SERVICE’. Does Ahmadinejad have secret service?
No way Obama could have been there, right? It would not shock me but...

OK. Up until now the only argument they had going for them was that it was a private business transaction, and we the people really didn’t have anything to say about it.
But now that they are asking for MY MONEY, I think I do have a say. And so now I say - HELL NO.
No way you are getting me to let you take my tax dollars to pay for your religion.
