U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman (D - Roslyn Heights) began distributing a letter to House Democrats encouraging both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer to bring about a floor vote on the DREAM Act during the lame-duck session of Congress, which is set to resume the week of Nov. 29. Already, the letter has generated more than 40 signatures in support of the vote.
The DREAM Act would enable undocumented children who were brought to the United States before their 16th birthday and have lived in the United States for at least five years with no criminal record to earn permanent legal status, and begin the process towards citizenship through attending college or joining the Armed Forces. The DREAM Act would benefit an estimated 934,000 students presently in elementary or secondary school.
Many of these students have no memory of life in a country other than the United States...
"All children, documented or undocumented, deserve the same basic educational opportunities that this bill provides," he added. "We must fight to pass this legislation now, before the current Congress ends, because next year we won't have the votes. We owe these children that much."
But it is for the children don’t you know.
We all will remember who supported this travesty come 2012.
You supported it and you too will be looking for work.
And 2 years to DROP AN ANCHOR, too.
ANY & ALL Politicians who vote for this WET DREAM of a bill whoud be facing harsh re-election situations, IMO.
This is nothing more than back door amnesty.
For those who don’t have a big illegal problem where they live- YOU are now going to see the problem—up close & personal.
The hidden & not-so-hidden costs of illegals who are in the country is far more $$$$$$ than anyone has the guts to try & detail—in any state.
California is particularly hard hit & I admit they have been blind to the depth of the problem.
Now- 50.6 % of all the students in California schools are Hispanic—& they still refuse to ask for proper papers to get your kid enrolled into school.
White kids are 27%.
No wonder kids are not learning anything when they are out-numbered 2 to 1 & the higher numbers do not speak English.
Your kids & grand kids are paying a very high price for this madness. Future businesses will have a very poor educated labor pool to draw from. The current labor pool is sub-standard enough.
Ping!
