'Chinese AWACS will revolutionise air defence'

Rezaul H Laskar

Islamabad, Nov 21 (PTI) The induction of Chinese-made airborne warning and control system aircraft in the Pakistan Air Force beginning next year will bring about a "revolution" in air defence operations, the air force chief said today.

Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, currently on a visit to China, told state-run APP news agency that his force has plans to induct four Shaanxi ZDK-03 AWACS aircraft in its inventory.

Suleman recently attended the roll out ceremony in Hanzhong for the first ZDK-03 aircraft designed specifically for PAF.

He said countries without AWACS aircraft mostly rely on ground-based radar systems that have "very serious limitations in terms of their surveillance and detection".

Highlighting the importance of the AWACS, Suleman said they can detect "any object flying from the enemy side and you can take action to counter the threat".

Not sure if these aircraft have been handed over the PAF, but that’s a common colour of newly assembled aircraft in places like China and Russia prior to formal delivery.

The really bad part for the Paki’s is that the spare parts for the thing can only be purchased at a wal-mart.

I don’t know which league they are in but they are unique in the fact that they use American military aid to get F-16s and then pay hard-cash to the Chicoms. There are rumours that they even leased an F-16 to China several years ago.

Give me a break—Chicom AWACS is only as effective as peace time allows.

American military technicians have war gamed AWACS from the Vietnam War til now and even if Clinton gave China the airborne technology along with our nuclear warhead and missile guidance secrets for campaign cash—communists cannot create they can only copy.

So their AWACS capabilities are so 80s and thus so week and vulnerable to America's 21st Century state of the art highest tech electronic countermeasures.

Because our president is a patriot...

What am I saying?

Let’s not forget Lt. Shane Osborn’s hand-flown-delivery of an EP3 to China in 2001.

Perhaps it is all part of BHO's plan: AWACS to detect the drones,
F-16s to shoot them down, and his Islamofascist buddies have
even less things to worry about while planning and training terrorist activities.

All these deals were signed or in discussion before Obama got to the senate and well before the White House.

That's the zinc chromate coating on the aircraft. It inhibits corrosion. The plane hasn't been painted in it's final colors yet.

Now that you mention it, various scenes involving "F-16s & Pakistan" have been going on since Reagan, or at least Bush I.

Don't recall details and time-lines though.

Does this mean they will be able to track our drones and warn their terrorist countrymen?
