Keane sums it all up in his sentence,
“9/11 has made us a frightened and cowed people. “
The TSA was created out of fear and panic, not sane rationality - which should be the basis of all bureaucracy and government creations.
I don’t know how long it will take us to get to sane rationality on airport security.
I would have punched his lights out.
There some things I won’t put up. This is crossing a line.
If more people had been in the military there wouldn’t be all this fuss.
Treated like a common criminal.
From the article: “Of course, instead of playing the rebel, I could have acquiesced, allowing the digital strip search to proceed.”
PLAYING THE REBEL?????????? You DID acquiesce! You submitted to the patdown. The question is why.
Why?
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaa........
Everyone is missing the obvious solution to this. Drive. Nobody has to fly anywhere. Put the airline business out of its misery once and for all.
just say:
“oh yes... OH YES! YES!! YES!!!”
This is a result of national cowardice, and lying. Until Americans can say to our masters, deal with the source of terrorism, and leave the rest of us alone, the many will suffer for he few. The rational that avoiding discrimination against Muslims means trampling the rights and dignity of everyone will make this government push out the envelope of tyranny. At some point we have to say no, and push big, corrupt government back. That point should have come long before now, and the longer we put it off, the more impossible it will become to stem the fascist tide. The government isn’t going to rollover on this this, so it will be interesting to see what Americans will do.
“Opt out Wednesday” might just be a small event. But the US citizens need to stand up to this fascism from Obama. We need to do what Gays do, massive protests and demonstrations outside of airports. Shut the airports down completely. Block all traffic, customer and employees, from getting in or out of the airport. the WH needs to understand, we will not be trampled on anymore
Near-strip search for planes...when will it start for trains (think London and Spain) or buses? When will nuclear-nudie pix be required to cross bridges or go through tunnels or visit government buildings?
What's next along the line of intrusion? How close are we to cavity searches in exchange for the freedom to travel? Will "enhanced interrogation" become part of the boarding process?
The line has been drawn. How are you and I going to respond? It is clearly a direct violation of the 4th Amendment prohibition of “ ... unreasonable search ... “
Where is Congress? where are the courts? where are all those who have taken an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution?
We have arrived at the point of a full-blown police state assault upon our freedoms, the rule of law, and our constitution.
After thousands of infrequent travelers are assaulted over Thanks Giving holiday, what will be their response? It’s going to take more that a rally in Washington DC to turn these treason around. IMHO
“Government is not reason; it is not eloquence. It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.” George Washington
I went through the full body scan with no incident. My wonderful DH then went through the full body scan, as well. THEN the TSA screeners decided he also needed to go through the "intimate pat down" ... and ordered him to stand in a special area for quite a few minutes. Then they frisked him. Thoroughly.
THEN they decided to re-x-ray his boots (which he'd taken off) two MORE times. For a total of three x-rays in total. This whole process took nearly 30 minutes, from start to finish, and by the time he refilled his pockets, put his watch back on, retrieved his personal items, and put his boots back on.
While my husband was getting "examined", the TSA guys waved at least three other civilian adult males through ... they just go the standard metal detector ... and not the body scan, the pat down, or three shoe x-rays.
How can they say our flight was "safer" when they groped my husband while letting others through without the body scan or pat down? It was hard not to feel singled out by this special treatment we received. While I will get to go through all of this on November 30 when I fly back home to California ... I take some small measure of solace that my wonderful DH won't have to deal with this again ~ at least until next year. He's deploying back to Iraq for the seventh time and will be on military transport.
I’ve changed my stance on this. Too many reports coming out of abuse. And whatever happened to the search laws? Apparently don’t apply here.
