Mitt Romney delays run, but experts say he’s a sure bet

Former Gov. Mitt Romney, a likely GOP presidential candidate for 2012, told supporters he won’t announce his candidacy before the end of the year — but political analysts said yesterday the discussion is the strongest indicator yet that he’ll run.

“We know who is running, they’re just doing everything but coming out and saying so,” said Andy Smith, director of the Political Center at the University of New Hampshire.

Romney held a conference call with 245 of his top supporters Thursday and told them that unlike his failed 2008 run, he won’t be announcing until later in the cycle, according to a Romney campaign source.

Listen closely... we Conservatives will destroy mitt... we have the truth in spades on him... all of the evidence... video, audio and legislative... we have more money collectively than he can raise... and we despise the rat bastard... that is the reality of it... and the repubics cannot win without us... and WE finance our candidates directly... and we will win in 2012.

The one advantage of having Obama in the Whitehouse as opposed to Romney is that the liberal policy that either of them would follow will be attributed to the Democrat party.

George Bush did irreparable harm to the reputation of the Republican Party by associating it with Big Government liberalism: No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part D, Homeland Security, TARP I, etc.

About the only conservative thing he fought for domestically was privatizing Social Security.

If we're going to have liberal nonsense spew out of the Whitehouse, and we will regardless of an Obama or Romney presidency then I would rather it come out of the mouth of a Democrat.

If the Republicans can retain veto power over liberal policies in the House and Senate then we can survive another four years of Obama.

Sure anyone can come to the caucus but they must register as a Republican, even if for that brief period of time BUT how do you make sure only devout Republicans attend.

And you just nailed the problem of allowing people to switch registrations on the same day as voting or caucusing. Most states require you to be registered in any party 30 days prior to the election at the most. This would stop most of the gate crashers.

Well, I'm an expert (in electronics engineering, which is just as good as their "expert" status), and I say that Willard Mitt Romney is a gun-grabbing Statist who will turn his back on his Oath to the Constitution as quick as you can wink, if it suits his power-grabbing purposes.

What do the "experts" think of that?

Thanks for posting--we need to know what the enemy is up to.

“The one advantage of having Obama in the Whitehouse as opposed to Romney is that the liberal policy that either of them would follow will be attributed to the Democrat party.”

OMG. Our republic will simply not survive if zer0 gets a second term. Even if we have one or both Houses, zer0 will see a 2nd term as a mandate for dictatorship and he will probably use Chavez as a model. 0bamacare will be set in stone with a federal mandate for unlimited power.(unless SCOTUS strikes down in 2011). zer0 is not a Bill Clinton, he is a rigid ideologue. The only question is whether he has a real malicious streak and is willing to execute power ruthlessly without the slightest regard to the law. I do not want to find that out.

If we have both Houses, believe me it would be a lot easier to promote conservative values and legislation with Romney in the WH than 0bama. Even a rino like Romney would be more amenable and more willing to bend to the will of the electorate than zer0. We must not think of what is good for the Republican party first. We must look at the Republicans simply as a vehicle to promote conservative values.

We need to think about getting conservatives elected first and foremost. After the primary, we must defeat zer0 at all costs. There can be no advantage of having the worst president in US history occupy the WH for a second time. Those that would support 0bama for a second term as president are Leftists that wish the destruction of the Constitution and our republic.

BTW it is more appropriate here to spell 0bama with the zero.

THE GOOD NEWS - He’s probably not quite as bad for the country as Obama

THE BAD NEWS - If elected he will turn what’s left of the USA into Massachusetts

I don't think Jim DeMint would cower behind anyone's skirt.

Here’s my take on the situation - the MEDIA picked the candidates in 2008 - period. I watched every debate, analyzed every word, facial expression and body language in 2008 and the “winners” that the political pundits came up with were total nonsense. McCain was chosen because he was the weakest candidate and it was his “turn”. McCain was a known and proven quantity.

The media wanted McCain to run up against Obama as they knew that the public had been spoon fed enough lies and bs about Bush over the past 8 years that they would not vote for another old white guy.

The American people had become sick of the wars, the terrorism and then were hit with a massive economic failure just to put the iceing on the cake and assure an Obama victory. Hope and change was a brilliant slogan but, unfortuneately, just a slogan.

Romney had more business intelligence than both McCain and Obama put together. I listened to his proposals to lower the corp tax rate (we currently have one of the highest in the world), get rid of the capital gains, etc., etc. and was impressed.

I want someone in office who knows what they’re doing (doesn’t have to be Romney at all). I am sick of the stupid policy wonks and community organizers who don’t know crap about anything. I’m also sick of the conservatives eating their own and continually bashing one another.

I want someone who puts this country first and foremost - even if that means pissing off the big money guys, the Chinese and the Saudi’s. The US is in a weak economic position right now and I don’t see it getting any better in the foreseeable future without some intelligent action and leadership. Rant over, lol.

He can’t beat Sarah in the primaries. He knows it. That is why he is waiting to see if she runs. If he some how gets the nomination, Obama, the democrats and their buddies in the MSM will slaughter him. All that we already know about him will fill the airwaves and be plastered on billboards.

They will strike the foundation of republican power base, the South and Mid- West. Pro gay Romney, anti-RKBA Romney, pro choice Romney, mandate loving Romney, and videos with his support for Romneycare will miraculously appear all over the South. He isn’t well liked there already. His plastic and phony flip flopping will be proclaimed all over the Mid-West. Once the TEA parties get involved actively against him, he’s a goner. The democrats know this. That is why they are so interested in making him the republican nominee.

Huckabee has shown a willingness to make deals and most of Huckabee’s supporters like Palin almost as much as they like him. They don’t like Romney at all.

He can’t beat Sarah in the primaries. He can beat her in Iowa (caucuses) and New Hampshire (crossover Dems). Hopefully that will not prove enough.

I don’t know how strong the TEA parties are in Iowa, but I think with them behind Sarah, Mitt will have a hard time winning there. New Hampshire does what it does. There are much larger states with many more delegates up for grabs.

Romney will make a formidable candidate in the GOP primary. He has $$$, looks, and no core convictions, all of which can help a politician.

He also has two of the first three primary states leaning his way, in NH and FL. I hope the Conservatives can coalesce around one qualified candidate to defeat Romney. Another RINO or two in the race certainly would help. Too many Conservatives in the race could hurt. Lots of time and lots of variables involved, but Romney will make a tough RINO candidate.

Is there some reason all the 2008 re-treads have to run again in 2012? Sometimes no really means no.

If there was one primary election day Romney would get slaughtered. But, there are several primary elections. The first few primaries are in Romney's favor, in NH and FL. He could do well in the Iowa caucus. Momentum then becomes a huge factor and Fox news will be pumping the “leading candidate” and throwing negative stories about the remaining candidates. In that scenario, Romney could win in short order.

The key to defeating Romney is preventing him from getting out of the gate successfully.

So we dismiss Romney at our peril.

There is a difference in dismissing, and refusing to endorse or promote, which is what this forum has correctly chosen as their policy.

Give no comfort to the enemy, no matter how electable they appear to be. California is paying for that nonsense attitude today.

zer0 will see a 2nd term as a mandate for dictatorship

I have been consistent in my opinion that this man does not intend to run for re-election, but he doesn't intend to leave either.
