One problem with that claim is a little thing called "The Industrial Revolution" that had already begun in England and only later - and for a long time to a secondary degree - spread to the rest of Europe and the US.

There were, of course, elements in the industrial revolution that were peculiar to UK, but it began in Belgium more than a century earlier.
