Maxine Waters Ethics Trial Canceled Posted by Brian Montopoli Leave Comment
One day after it recommended censure for veteran Democrat Charles Rangel of New York, the bipartisan House ethics committee has canceled the Nov. 29th trial for California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters.
The committee said new material has come to light that has prompted a decision to send the Waters case back to the initial subcommittee that first looked into it, according to CBS Radio News Capitol Hill Correspondent Bob Fuss. That four-member subcommittee will now reexamine the evidence against Waters.
Waters has been accused of improperly attempting to steer federal bailout money to a bank in which her husband had a financial interest. The lawmaker, who has a high-ranking spot on the House Financial Services Committee, has denied all wrongdoing.
In 2008, Waters organized a meeting between Treasury officials and executives from OneUnited Bank, where her husband was once a board member and had significant investments. The bank received $12 million from the federal government's Troubled Asset Relief Program.
Waters has defended her request for the meeting as part of her efforts to advocate on behalf of minority-owned businesses.

Was this "new material" in large or small denominations?
Hope they screw up and this rolls into January.
Spoil sport. I just saw this thread and was about to reply with the same words. :-)
Great minds.
So, somebody has finally looked in Maxine’s freezer?
Those are lifestyles in the 'hood.
That's what I'm wondering.
Does anybody know how she's regarded by the other Dims? The impression I get is that she's a b!tch.
They could be throwing her to the lions.
Hope they found something to indict Barney Frank, too.
Is that just wishful thinking on my part?
I would say that it's probably exoneration or at least a plausible excuse. That's the only good reason to delay.
If it was evidence of new crimes, the Democrats would want to push her through the ethics committee hearing whitewash and censure her like Rangel before the Republicans take over.
Then, the Republicans would be in a difficult position to initiate a new investigation over the same issue. Kind of like double-jeopardy: you can't be tried twice for the same crime.
I think it is actually black washing time.
Exactly.
This arrogant, dim-witted thug has been funneling money to her husbands companies for decades. She is a CRIMINAL, pure and simple. But I’d be quite surprised to see republicans summon up the GUTS necessary to try her after the first of the year. After all, they wouldn’t want to risk losing that perpetually ENORMOUS number of black votes next time around!!
They want the Republicans to handle it. Then they will call them racists.
How ‘effin convenient for her!
Bawny's going to be a tougher nut to crack. I think his suck-up skills are a little better than Maxy's.(no pun intended, unless appropriate)
I merely suspect that hers are dismal, that maybe she's PO'd a lot of her fellow travelers.
But I really don't know.
Wishful thinking is what's keeping me going these days.
Let me guess, there’s no controlling legal authority?
hmm...new material...could that new material be the conviction of Rangel? can’t have two black congressmen convicted by a Dem Congress back to back - what message would that send to their black constituents for goodness sakes? why, they’d call the Dems the R word. There’d be riots for crying out loud! So they’ll sit on Waters until a few other un-blacks are found to take the spotlight, and then get back to her, if she hasn’t retired by then, when the “racist” republicans are in power.
LOL. Her constituents don't pay taxes. I'd be willing to bet serious cash, that if you looked at welfare vs. taxes paid in her district the balance would be extrarodinarily slanted towards payments made by the government.
The can of worms was to be to be eaten in just one bite.
Erascism.
