For Frederica Wilson, style is substance when it comes to her hat collection.
The former state legislator who was elected to replace Kendrick Meek in District 17 is as mad as a hatter that head dress is prohibited on the floor in the House of Representatives on Capitol Hill.
Wilson, a Democrat from Miami, is known for having a hat for every outfit and every occasion. She's probably more known for her trademark style than any piece of legislation she pushed or voted for, so it's easy to understand why she would feel her identity is being stripped away.
"Hats are what I wear. People get excited when they see the hats. Once you get accustomed to it, it's just me," Wilson told the Miami Herald. "Some people wear wigs, or high heel shoes or big earrings or pins. This is just me."

Well, honey, it ain't about you.
She replaced Kendrick Meek in a south Florida district that is drawn to elect a Black Democrat. She will hold the seat until death or indictment and conviction.
"Put on your red dress, baby, cause we going out tonight..."
"And bring some boxin' gloves, in case some fool might want to fight..."
Once again the voters of Fl 17 have shown themselves to be something less than winners.
I doubt if indictment and/or conviction would effect her election prospects much at all.
I wonder if anyone will ever be brave enough to bring up the deficiency black people display in making rational voting decisions. Look at the CBC. If you went out and searched for a collection of kooks specifically with the intent of making black people in general look bad you couldn’t be more successful.
Actually, if a woman is wearing a hat, she is not required to remove it indoors..same as in church. And in the Marine Corps, we women Marines were not required to remove their cover indoors ( if we worked in the space we did for comfort sake) but it was not a requirement.
That said, however, if the congress dress code dictates that all head wear is not to be worn in the Congress working areas then so be it. I for one would not want to wear a hat all day...
She just wants to draw attention to herself.
As to that dummy from Houston,,her hairdo always make me think that braid is her version a diadem.
They traded down unfortunately. Meek seemed like a decent guy even if his policies were wrong.
COGIC?
I’m still upset that they banned spittoons from the House floor.
I'm sure that such a ban would not apply to Muslims.
Headwear has devolved into baseball caps for the most part. When I started reading this story, I thought he would be wearing a traditional African headdress.
Instead, she is wearing a what looks like very nice subdued, flat brimmed Stetson. It looks good on her and it looks classy.
Kinda like that Don't Touch My Junk guy, huh?
Obey the rules. Don't question your government, they know best. They are only here to help you.
... AND Blindfolds.
Maybe, but a ban on hats is as stupid as Sheila Jackson Lee.
lol
that’s SO funny, that is EXACTLY the picture that came to mind!
I say let her wear a hat!
Bellowing bella, I’m so glad she didn’t wear that dumb hat.
