The Michigan Republican told POLITICO on Thursday that he's not afraid to go back after an issue he once supported but that has come under withering assault on the conservative airwaves, including on Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck's talk shows

Hate that fluorescent lighting—gives me headaches. Would go l.e.d. but they’re about $50 bucks a pop. Guess I’ll stockpile, that and a few other things.

Upton was being interviewed a few days ago on the radio. He really doesn't understand (hasn't a clue) that the government has NO business regulating light bulbs.
He's a definite part of the problem and should in no way be allowed anywhere near a chair.

I don’t think the government should be telling us what lightbulbs to use, but frankly anyone who doesn’t use mostly CFLs in his house is a fool. I have saved at least $2,000 since I started using them 15 years ago.
About the headaches, have you tried the newer natural/sunlight type of CFL? Also if you need more light because of SAD Seasonal Affective Disorder, caused by insufficient sunlight, you might try taking 1,000 to 2,000 units of Vitamin D a day. The recommended daily allowance for Vitamin D has been raised significantly recently. Extra D seems to be really helpful for winter depression.

Looks like he wants the Chairmanship more than CFLs, maybe he should have thought about this before.

The idiocy about CFL bulbs is they contain toxic mercury. I fail to see how the environment will be saved when millions of the bulbs will have to be disposed of each year as hazardous waste. Most of the CFL bulbs are also manufactured in China.

It is well noted that some people are sensitive to the very real flicker effect in CFLs, regardless of the type used. Epileptics may sometimes respond badly to them.
I built my house four years ago, and the bathroom vanities, front hall entrance, and kitchen can lights are not well served by CFL equivalents, for aesthetic, and in the case of the hall entry, space reasons. My basement uses 250 Watt incandescents, no reasonable CFL equivalent. I also have 150 watt floodlights, and I have found no CFL equivalent, though I would consider them as changing the bulb requires a LONG ladder.
I do use CFLs in the garage and attic, and other places where the quality of light doesn’t matter.

Toxic, mercury laden, poorly illuminating light bulbs - Check.
Tiny, 3.8 liter toilets requiring multiple flushes - Check.
Naked X-ray pictures or sexual assault by Gov. thugs - Check.
Full gun safe and 50K rounds - Check.

Upton is a dim bulb for proposing the ban in the first place.

Banning of the incandescent light bulb was an act of legislative insanity. It is one of many recent D.C. dicta that must be repealed.

Mercury poisoning of Chinese factory workers making CFLs a concern Thousands of Chinese factory workers who manufacture 'environmentally friendly' mercury compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) for export to first world countries have been poisoned and hospitalized because of mercury exposure over the last decade.
The danger of compact fluorescent lighting
Also new research has come to light that indicates that CFLs emit a high humming sound that is not in our range of hearing but is in the range of hearing of cats and dogs. Can you image hearing a high pitched humming sound all day long. It would be enough to drive you nuts! Many pet owners report that their cats or dogs do not want to be in rooms with CFL bulbs on and will become anxious if they are forced to be.

I couldn’t agree more. The government has no business telling people what kind of lighting they can have and him as a supposed conservative should know that.

No deal. That bum shouldn’t even be on the energy committee, let alone run it.
We can repeal the light bulb ban a lot quicker without his “help.”

Well hell, I must be a fool. I refuse to use CFLs mainly for the fact, they contain mercury. All of you who use them are in for a surprise in the near future. CFLs need to be disposed of properly unless you want mercury in the water again, like it supposedly was years ago. There is a big company that is lobbying Congress to have exclusive rights to disposal services. I bet you haven't heard of that yet.
Another reason I don't use them is the supposed extra life they have. If the light bulb is used in the upright position, the life is much longer. If they are used upside down or horizontally, the life is cut dramatically. Don't believe me, check on it.
Lastly, none of the CFLs are manufactured in the states, only overseas. We need to help our economy more than China's or any other country.
Just my thought and comments. Save $1000 over a decade or ruin the environment permanently. By the way, I'm not a tree hugger nor do I drive a hybrid. I do work in the recycling field though.
