Sweden Eyes Arrest of WikiLeaks Boss Amid Rape Allegations

(Nov. 18) -- A Swedish prosecutor requested an arrest warrant today for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who's being investigated for rape, sexual molestation and coercion -- allegations he denies.

Two Swedish women who volunteered with WikiLeaks have both accused Assange of rape and sexual assault during meetings that took place in late summer. Assange, 39, says his relations with both women were consensual.

He's also called their claims "dirty tricks" by the Pentagon and part of a "legal circus" in Sweden, where he sought to set up a base for WikiLeaks where the whistle-blower site would be shielded from prosecution under the country's strict journalism protection laws.

Fabrice Coffrini, AFP/Getty Images WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is the target of an arrest warrant requested Thursday by a Swedish prosecutor investigating rape and sexual molestation charges against him. Assange has denied the allegations. An Australian citizen, Assange has a reputation for suspicion, secrecy and reclusiveness. He has said he believes a high-level conspiracy is working to discredit him. He's angered the Pentagon and other powerful forces with his release of documents about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. WikiLeaks recently made public nearly 400,000 classified U.S. files that revealed that thousands more Iraqi civilians died during the war there than the U.S. military previously acknowledged.

But Stockholm prosecutor Marianne Ny said today's warrant request has nothing to do with Assange's work.

"The reason for my request is that we need to interrogate him. So far, we have not been able to meet him to carry out the interrogations," Ny said, according to Reuters. A court hearing is set for today.

This isn't the first time the Stockholm prosecutor's office has requested such a warrant for Assange. It issued a warrant in late August and then withdrew it a month later, but announced that it was continuing to investigate the rape and sexual molestation charges, The New York Times reported.

If Ny's request is granted, authorities could issue an international arrest warrant for Assange, who is believed to be in Britain, Agence France-Presse reported.

Assange's lawyer in Sweden, Bjoern Hurtig, called the prosecutor's petition "exaggerated" and "out of proportion."

"He of course denies the allegations and opposes being arrested, and we do not think it is proportional to demand his arrest just to interrogate him," Hurtig told AFP.

But Claes Borgstroem, a lawyer for the two Swedish women, who haven't been identified, told Sweden's TT news agency, "Finally. This should have been done earlier."

Typical leftist scum. The hero of the international, pacifist Marxist left turns out to potentially be a violent guy himself and guilty of the crap he accuses our soldiers of. The filthy should be put in front of a firing squad for high treason against the free world and for giving aid and comfort to terrorists.

Apparently Assange is innocent as the driven snow and the rapes charges are just an evil NATO/CIA conspiracy to ‘silence him’ -— according to the left.

Does not seem to be working very well as WikiLeaks and Assange at this moment still publicly available endangering our troops overseas.

It’s “the Moscow Way” - kind of like leaving Somali Pirates in the middle of the sea in a leaky boat. You may see a little dropoff in the quantity of lies about the Russian military moving forward.

.
We have so many of them in the free world but we keep on making excuses for them that they will complete their mission without effort. In the meantime the free world will lie down in the fetal position and just take it in the *ss.

It all started with Klaus Fuchs and the atomic secrets back in the 40’s. He never got what he deserved. America just ripped out it’s own spine after WWII and joined the UN in order to receive more abuse.

Wrong choice by CIA, they should have used one Swedish Mauser, instead of two Swedish masseuses.

Hmmm. Is Assange selective in the countries that he “outs”? I wonder what would have happened to him if he’d revealed Russian secrets. I’ll bet he’d assume room temperature rather quickly. Instead, he goes after the U.S., where he can be assured we will follow the Marquess of Queensberry rules...

“An Australian citizen, Assange has a reputation for suspicion, secrecy and reclusiveness.”

Isn't this what the international left accuses the United States of?

Typical ultra left wing loser guy who thinks he is above civilized behavior because of all of his wonderful “work”. I can just see liberal women being pulled in by their “hero” and then when they are assaulted he sees no problem with it — it's their fault, after all, he works for the good of society, and deserves a little down time. (Do I really have to write “sarcasm”?) The guy even looks disgusting, and even though I always say don't judge a book by the cover, his cover is slimy and has dirtbag written all over it.
