generation fighter design contract in December, Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Thursday.

Russia's Sukhoi holding and India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) agreed in early 2010 to jointly develop a fifth-generation fighter jet. India confirmed that it had finalized a draft contract at a meeting with Russia in early October.

"If all procedures are completed by the time of our president's visit [to India] in December, the contract will be ready for signing," Ivanov said.

The new aircraft will be based on Russia's T-50 prototype fifth-generation fighter, which has already made several test flights, and is expected to enter service with the Russian Air Force in 2015.

One would think India's experience with the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier would tell them something.

Why does FR know this stuff, yet India . . . .

Maybe India is sending a message to the next president about 5G.

"In 1988, The Russians and the Indians signed a co-operation agreement."

They should know better by now. Buy American.

Co-operation agreement is not obligation to buy.

Co-operate to keep ChiComs in their place.

Their relationship is very deep. The cooperation is not limited to a buyer-seller relationship but includes joint research and development, training, service to service contacts, including joint exercises.

Exactly, Russia and India are best allies to each other for some 50 years despite a fact that India is a part of free world.

And India is not a friend of America after a Bay of Bengal event there US Navy supported Paki jihad against them.

Russian are giving Indians the best they have. It is something they didn’t to their official best allies in Cold War like Germany or Poland.
Indians were used non-monkey model Soviet Mach3 interceptors and even had a Soviet nuclear subs leased since 80s. I don’t think US has an ally trusted enough to get a LA-class sub or B-2 bomber. That is a kind of a military alliance no other nations has.
