The American serviceman serves the People and protects the constitution.
Not the despot in chief.
One wonders if he were to give such an illegal order, how long it would take for the joint chiefs to remove him from office.
Lets hope about as long as it would take tanks and gunships to surround the white house, and hang that scumbag..
The joint chiefs are political hacks who will bend over and kiss islamabama’s ring anytime he orders them to do so.
I’m afraid that if he called out the troops and ordered martial law at least 42% of the people would say it’s okay. And would even volunteer to help.
It didn’t prevent Macarthur/Patton from this (I hate wikipedia but it was quicker for me to grab from there than get my reference books out):
In July 1932, Patton served under Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur as a major commanding 600 troops, including the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. On July 28, MacArthur ordered these troops to advance on protesting veterans known as the “Bonus Army” in Washington, D.C. with tear gas and bayonets.
A good soldier follows orders, a good officer knows a lawful from unlawful order. Unfortunately as a prior officer myself, I saw many who cared more for their “career” and political expediency than for their duty, stewardship, and honor.
That order to go against the Constitution and “ THE PEOPLE “ would be a crime far and above high crimes and misdemeanors
One wonders if he were to give such an illegal order, how long it would take for the joint chiefs to remove him from office.
You have been watching too many movies.
The current military brass all suffer from Beltway Disease and hold political and social opinions very much like you would expect from Colin Powell. You don't make flag officer rank by being a Patriot, in fact, Patriotism for the last generation is a definite liability in promotability.
As for the rest of the military, I strongly recommend reading up on the Milgram Experiments and the Stanford Prison Experiment. The latter is demonstrated right before your very eyes at your local airport.
