You’ve got it backwards. It’s the current system where the government dictates the level of security—not mine. You want the current system, but just a lower level of government-dictated security. In my system, the consumer decides. He has a choice which airline to fly. In your system with the lower level of security, some will still complain that it’s too intrusive, while others will complain that it’s not thorough enough. But whatever the level of security there is under your system will be ordered by the government, just as it is now.
the problem is that since the government is involved, those among us wearing burkas will scream violation of their first amendment rights and discrimination if the "secure airlines" requires the scanner before boarding
if the government is not involved in the secure airlines there wouldn't be a first amendment claim since no state involvement, however those same people will scream discrimination based on religion and ethnicity and kill the idea
my thought is that we just freaking profile...or have the government provide a "Muslim Air" system that is paid for by a "muslim tax" with no screening but no Muslims on the private airlines...
