If this were the average Joe, would popularity among his peers have any sway against criminal charges? Generally speaking, no. That's just the main point which we've seen illustrated so many times during the past few decades: a Democrat politico, especially a "minority" Democrat politico, can often get away with things that just about no one else can. It's called a double standard.
