The California Supreme Court decided unanimously Monday that illegal immigrants may continue to be eligible for in-state tuition rates at the state's colleges and universities rather than pay the higher rates charged to those who live out of state.
In a ruling written by Justice Ming W. Chin, one of the panel's more conservative members, the state high court said a California law that guarantees the lower tuition for students who attend California high schools for at least three years and graduate does not conflict with a federal prohibition on giving illegal immigrants educational benefits based on residency.
California is one of several states that permit illegal immigrants to take advantage of lower college tuition for students who attend high school and graduate in state. About 25,000 illegal immigrants are estimated to receive in-state tuition rates in California.
A group fighting illegal immigration challenged the California law on behalf of U.S. citizens who pay the higher tuition as out-of-state students. The group won in lower court, and the state appealed.
The lawsuit contended the California law usurped a federal prohibition on giving educational benefits based on residency to illegal immigrants but not all U.S. citizens. College students who are in the country illegally are barred from government financial-aid programs. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected eventually to decide whether the lower tuition rates also violate federal law.

How much luck did you have in attempting to persuade Gov. Perry to veto, rather than sign, the bill that granted In-State Tuition to Illegal Aliens?

I lived there 3 years, sold my house and pocketed a handful, came back to Texas and bought a house I live in, a ranch I run cattle on, and a lakehouse I play with using that money. I never play the lottery but I won there and will never go back.

I believe I answered your question regarding my prior contact to my state legislators. I commented in this thread concering the usage of tax dollars paid to the federal govt for usage in the California educational system.
Are you trolling for something here? I know Texas had problems, but that was not was being discussed.
I can see why you would be frustrated by your tax dollars going to states like California or Texas which grant In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens.
However, if we are going to discuss California’s policy of granting In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens, we must explore the root of the policy which began in Texas and was copied by California.
And I expect more from Texas Republicans than I do California Democrats.
But, instead we get the same open border socialist policies in both states.

Still, the continuing Great Obama Recession is going to eliminate the in-state/out of state differential anyway, but all of us out here in Flyover Country do understand the insult hurled at us by the Chinese guy who is sure he's smarter than everyone else ~ see, he can trick out English too!
He'll be lucky to leave the place alive when the Mexicans figure out what him and his running dog lackeys have just done to the state.

People have said this before:
If they want American citizenship so very badly, there’s a way to arrange it. We can add a few more stars to our flag.
My issue is that as a Texan I do not wish to subsidize another state that chooses to pay illegals to attend school.
What happens in my state is different as it affects the state money I pay in taxes, not the federal.
You seem to want to just dig into Perry, who i know deserves it and, from your postings on other threads, you have a real problem with.
I wish on the other hand to state that a state should not be forced to subsidize another state’s excesses whether it is education, green jobs or just plain fiscal irresponsibility.
We in Texas can deal with our politicians, I just don’t want to deal with the feds.
On the campaign trail Rick Perry talks like a Tea Party Conservative, but in Austin he governs like a Nanny State Socialist.
Once again, you are fixated on Perry. it’s obvious, and off subject.

The problem with Perry is that he is running for president and is attempting to portray himself as a solid Tea Party Conservative, when the facts indicate otherwise.
And, I am not one that is willing to give Perry tacit approval to his policy of granting in-state tuition to illegal aliens while slamming California for the exact same policy.
I will condemn them both.
