Lots of new drilling going on in my corner of southern Michigan these days.
I wonder if it is possible to “frack” the shale in the Green River Formation.
PEAK OIL!
Wells that were non profitable at $40/barrel can make good money at $80 a barrel.
I don't see this as disproving peak oil, particularly in the USA.
“I wonder if it is possible to frack the shale in the Green River Formation.”
Shell has a system.
No way. There is more oil than the demorats can stop.
Peak Oil as a concept is definitely valid. Oil is, more than likely (but not certainly) a "finite resource".
However, will Peak Oil arrive next year, the next decade, the next century...or even later?
Technology has had a way of pushing Peak Oil further and further into the future. The very first oil panic was in the twenties. Then, somebody invented the pumpjack. The next oil panic was in the fifties. Then, somebody invented injection.
Then came offshore. And now "fracking" of shale deposits, in concert with horizontal drilling. We haven't seen the last of new technology (unless the government nationalizes the industry).
For the foreseeable future, then, Peak Oil will continue to be a moving target -- somewhere out there in the future.
An interesting development. Obviously, cleaner ways of extraction are necessary, but now we know that it can be done.
The governing class wrings its hands and their media idiots flood the news outlets with stories wondering what will lead us out of our economic doldrums. They ignore the one industry, the energy industry, that could ignite the economy and seriously reduce our balance of trade problems.
Remove the barriers to oil/natural gas production as well as the nuclear industry and let our entrepreneurs, engineers and skilled workers lead the way. If we were to do this maybe foreign leaders might be more inclined to work with a future President when he goes abroad. Tell the man-made Global Warming crowd to pound sand; unemployed Americans will become increasingly less receptive to their fraudulent studies.
1) Abiotic production is a fact (it gets replenished as a geological activity side-effect, not dinosaur compression)
2) Barry will do something to stop this blatant threat to the bottomless funneling of American wealth to his Saudi masters.
I don’t know; but, a couple of decades ago, the received wisdom held that the Alberta oil sands couldn’t be developed economically. They are now the greatest single source of oil imported into the U.S.
Depends on how you define your terms, I guess.
Again.
Well then, they don't really know do they? But they continue running and ruining our way of life by PRETENDING that they know, based on what? Nothing but hot air.
NOTHING has turned out to be correct by the doom and gloomers that I've been having to endure for many years, yet they STILL hold sway over our way of life, why is this tolerated? Who gave these idiots that power? Let's take it back then!
In a related matter, Oxy Petroleum recently made public a discovery of 150-250 barrels of gas and oil in Kern County, CA in the same area as an existing oil field that was first tapped in 1894 and is still producing.
Wait until Mr. Mouch hears about this.
The higher the price of oil the more domestic drilling.
When oil prices fall, so will domestic drilling.
Cheap domestic oil is fantasy.
Bump to read later.
