Pelosi's new position for Clyburn to avert Dem battle: 'Assistant Leader' By Molly K. Hooper - 11/13/10 04:00 PM ET
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) asked her colleagues Saturday to support Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) for "Assistant Leader," a newly created third-ranking position at the leadership table.
In a letter to her fellow Democrats, Pelosi wrote "should I receive the privilege of serving as House Democratic Leader, I will be very honored to nominate our outstanding colleague, Congressman Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, to serve in the number three House Democratic position. I will also ask the Caucus to designate that position as Assistant Leader."
House Democrats averted a nasty fight when Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced the creation of the new No. 3 ranking spot for Clyburn.
The late Friday night news ended an internecine battle between current Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Clyburn, both vying to be the No. 2 ranked House Dem in the 112th Congress.
According to a source close to Clyburn, the “solution” is to create a third-ranking Democratic leadership position that “would maintain the diversity of the Caucus as well as the wishes of a majority of the Caucus, that (Clyburn) remain in the number three leadership post.”
With the loss of the Speaker’s gavel, at least one Democrat in the leadership team was to be squeezed out of a high-ranking position.

As “assistant leader” it will be Clyburn’s job to assist Pelosi.
Tasks will include taking dictation, getting her coffee, picking up her dry-cleaning, shining her shoes, making reservations, straightening up her office, and driving her to appointments.

Nancy Pelosi just relegated Congressman Jim Clyburn (D-SC), former Majority Whip, to the newly created position of “Assistant Leader”...the modern day equivalent of “House Negro”.
This was done in order to avoid the loss of the generally taken for granted “black vote”
React appropriately.
What the heck does she think she is doing? They don’t need another leader. They need to get out.
Sad, but Jim Clyburn don’t have too many smarts upstairs!!! The poor soul doesn’t realize Pelosi and Hoyer just mad a total fool and idiot our of him!!! Just what does an “assistant leader” do, take out the Democrat congressional garbage like uneaten pizza, burgers and empty soda cans!!! And.....now that the Democrat Party has no power in the House, who needs an “assistant leader” for anything!!! The POTUS Obama is a total failure as POTUS and the Democrat Party has gone mad!!!

Just what does an “assistant leader” do, take out the Democrat congressional garbageNo, the voters already did that on November 2.
It first happened in 1947. Republicans gained the House, Sam Rayburn moved down from Speaker to Leader, McCormack moved down from Leader to Whip, and it’s serendipity, baby, John Sparkman ran for Senate and won.
Two years later it happened again. Joe Martin moved down to Leader, Leslie Arends stayed as Whip, not sure what happened to Leader Charles Halleck.
Four years later it happened again. But this time I’m not sure what happened to Whip Percy Priest.
Two years later it happened again. Again Halleck rotated out. In ‘59, Halleck beat out Martin for Leader.
For years, the pecking order has been Leader-Whip-Chairman. This assistant leader crap is clearly a fake position. I’ll admit I thought that Hoyer would get bounced. They could have put Clyburn on as Chairman and bounced Larson.
Just...LOL
