This is a photo of a space shuttle launch at sunset and its shadow coincidentally pointing to the moon. The thing to observe is that the bottom of the plume is in the earth's shadow while the top is still in the sun. Compare to the mystery plume which is all in the sun. The mystery plume is therefore a horizontal contrail produced by an airplane.

If that is a sunset launch that is the moon’s shadow and has nothing to do with the shuttle’s contrail except coincidence.
