When it came out that 3,000 people called 911 on the morning of the Northridge earthquake to report that there had been an...earthquake, I believe I became immune to ever having to worry about looking or sounding silly. On the night of the Vandenberg launch, 911 and local radio station lines were jammed with people calling to report the strange lights in the sky, even though local radio and television had been talking about it going to happen for the prior two days.
