Good question. Here’s another: Why, in a sky full of aircraft, weren’t there scores of pilots reporting a missile launch or other strange phenomenon to ATC?
I do believe that qualifies as rational paranoia, no? That is, just because you think they're out to get you, that don't mean they actually aren't out to get you. Right?
Acutally I'm totally unclear what that comment is supposed to insinuate, that the US Gov (or military) was responsible (either deliberately or accidentally) for FLT800? I believe the band that connects rationality to credulity is stretched so far that the PTHWANNNNNG! isn't more than a millisecond away; that's how far that band is being stretched here. The implications being of a coverup of gargantuan to grimace proportions with respect to that - or the recent 'mystery missile' theory - but a Chinese submarine surfacing in the middle of a CVN group is allowed by said powers-on-high to readily be reported by media the world over is just too mind boggeling to fathom. The contrast here is SO stark is incomprehensible. What is the source for the CVN incident? And yet a public spectacle that is in plain sight by literally millions has to be hushed up.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

Yessir, that is a good question. You are the first to raise an iota of doubt in my mind.
