I only have three and 2 are in Nevada and 1 is California. The fool part was a collective and putting you in that was probably incorrect.

After seeing the video I’m convinced this was not a contrail, but I would be willing to change my mind on this for some free beer.

As a private pilot, one would have to fly at the right place at the right time during the right weather conditions to capture it on vid. So yes you could do it if that were your sole mission in life I suppose. I’ve seen this kind of thing before, but it’s nothing you plan to go out and see.
I would fully expect people on the ground though to attempt to replicate that days vid.
Think of the “green flash” phenomenom at sunset. You watch enough, you see it eventually.
I would assume that the FAA and various mil entities would have known within minutes whether the trail was from a jet or not.

Further, if you will actually address what I wrote (i.e. breezily dismiss expertise) instead of some straw man of kowtowing to consensus, you might get some credit for intellectual integrity.

The military would ignore jets coming in on normal air corridors. The FAA relies on transponders on the planes that “squawk” altitude as well as radar. ATC may not even see a missile, or recognize the signature.
If the FAA got reports from pilots that’s most likely how they would know something happened quickest. No reports were radioed.
I think that fact that it will happen again should be enough for some. It won’t be exactly the same, there are weather variables, but more then close enough to prove the point.
There was a contrail the next day at the same time of course. No news chopper aloft with camera in the same spot though, and probably other variables that would diminish the illusion some.
This would be an awesome thing for Mythbusters to tackle, but again weather conditions have got to be right it would get expensive trying to replicate it exactly.
Sometimes things just come together right.
Remove the news chopper from this, and I doubt there would have been any Drudge headlines at all about it.
This is a US Airway B752 which is what flight 808 is.
It's just amazing how that dark blue underbelly glows like a burning match head by reflecting the light of a setting sun.
But if it was a dark brown UPS plane then, never mind. That's a different matter.

There are contrails all day long around here when we have humidity. What does that have to do with a high res closeup video of a rocket looking contrail being created ? Reproduce the video. Should be easy to do. No one has.

Nice summary!.
1). Some newsjock misinterpreted something that happens all the time -- and reported it as something horrific,
2). Most folks (including government folks) looked, and said, "It looks like every other day to me."
3). Those who wanted a little excitement or conspiracy in their lives took up the newsjock's misinterpretation and ran with it.
4). Those who think that everyone in government is a deliberately duplicitious liar, took "Ho hum...nothing's going on" and turned it into some malevolent government cabal.
No big deal. The stupid and ignorant will l remain so. The congenitally unconvinced will remain suspicious. Planes will continue to fly and make contrails -- and soon, no one will think anything about it -- aqain...
But the really hilarious part is that FReepers who normally mistrust EVERYTHING that comes out of the MSM swallowed this newsjock's clown act hook, line, and sinker... And so did several prominent folks who should have kept their mouths shut.

And this clear clue was mentioned, but was totally ignored: It was after sunset; the earth was dark and the upper sky was illuminated with reddish light.
The "smoke/con" trail started off bright and ended up dark.
