As a visually-oriented individual, this has been a real revelation: that there are many people who look at things and simply see very little of what is there -- and comprehend even less. Sort of how I am with text-delivered information...
But the big surprise was how many folks feel driven to see something evil and political in something I see as merely a common physical event that had just been brought to our attention in a deceptive fashion. The vehemence to which they seem driven amazes me -- and in a way, is distressing. I guess I'm just not "wired" to understand how folks can put so much personal and emotional commitment into a misinterpretation of something so ordinary...
But the truly distressing thing is their willingness to attribute evil motives to someone like me -- who is just trying to make sense of the event and working hard to try to convey what I see in graphic form. It's almost like we live in different worlds...
