Several buildings and vehicles in Greenville including the newly constructed Braum's store on Wesley Street were damaged by the unexpected weather. There are no preliminary indiations whether the storm contained a tornado, a downburst or staright-line winds.
Other damage in the area includes a wooden fence that was blown over onto nearby cars, power lines that fell onto the street, and several downed trees. There are also reports of damage in the Crossroads Mall shopping center.
More details, including videos from the scene, will be coming soon on HeraldBanner.com.
Braums must be cursed. They just finished building that place a couple months ago.
There are several videos at the link.
Windmissile.
Were there any contrails spotted leaving the area?
Nosiree Bob! We don't go in for those shenanigans around here.
I am glad it said Texas in the title. There must be a “Greenville” in just about every state.
Where are the Old-Timer’s who man the local coffee shop, and debate straight winds as opposed to twisters?
Great memories of living in small town Kansas!
Is Greenville in the West Texas flatlands??
I gather, from conversations with friends, that such occurances, while not exactly ‘routine’, aren’t all that rare in that part of the state....
Wow! I haven’t been to that part of the state in many years. How big is Greenville now?
No, it's up near Dallas
It was a mezocyclone by my estimation.
It blew in straight from the west then the wind suddenly shifted and was coming from the east. That is when it got violent and I heard what sounded like hail but is was just the rain being driven REALLY HARD.
East Texas
No, Greenville is in Northeast Texas off I-30 on your way to Arkansas from Dallas.
You’d think I’d know since they just did the census.
I am going to guess 40K?
The 2000 census says 24k
I figured it had grown. Many, many years ago my husband and I were transferred from Dallas to Sulphur Springs and used to drive through Greenville all the time when we’d go back to Dallas to see family. Next to Sulphur Springs it was HUGE, lol.
I thought Sulpher Springs was Hugh!
They got a K-Bobs Steak house and the outlet mall!
It was a mezocyclone by my estimation.
We’re outside Ft Sumner, NM. We got a little rain this AM, but, amazingly, little wind.
I’ll bet your right. That would explain a “localized” wind storm.
It seems to be about all we get here.
That is part of why I planted myself here.
Seems like supercells with tornados always split and go around this town.
LOL, maybe it is now. Way back then it was mostly where all the dairy farmers went to buy supplies.
Perzactly.
