Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson was arrested at his home Friday morning by federal law enforcement agents, and he is tentatively scheduled to appear in court on federal charges later Friday afternoon.
Johnson and his wife, Leslie E. Johnson, were taken away in handcuffs shortly before 1 p.m. Johnson, wearing a camel-colored suit and white shirt, did not address reporters' questions.
Johnson, who is coming to the end of his term next month, is expected to appear in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt. Their appearances are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. The charges will be unsealed at that time, federal officials said.
Leslie Johnson recently was elected to the County Council from District 6.
Neither the FBI nor the U.S. Attorney's Office in Baltimore would discuss the case, other than to confirm that a series of search warrants were served Friday at the Prince George's County government headquarters and at the Johnson home.
Since taking office in 2002, Johnson has been linked to investigations by various authorities, including a pay-to-play accusation involving a county contract to lease office space and a broad FBI investigation involving a massive development project near the Greenbelt Metro station that Johnson had strongly backed.
Both investigations have involved a number of Johnson associates either requesting payment or receiving strong government support. A Washington Post investigation of Johnson's first term in office found that he had given 15 friends and allies 51 county contracts totaling nearly $3.3 million.
In all, Johnson has come under scrutiny for county development deals worth millions of dollars that have gone to people with ties to the county executive. Several of those people had little or no development experience or were given no-bid contracts, according to government records.

WMAL just reported that they flushed a check for $100,000 down the toilet as the law was closing in, and she had $75,000 hidden in her underwear when she was arrested.

These are federal charges, so the Upper Marlboro bench is irrelevant.
Also, the Fraternal Order of Police has a long-standing grudge with the Johnson machine, so I wouldn ‘t be surprised if the assisted the feds in any way they could.
