NRA Support Propels Candidates
Newsmax ^ | 09 Nov 2010 | Brad O’Leary

When you analyze the impact of conservative and single-issue membership organizations on the 2010 midterm elections, you find that one group’s efforts dwarfed the rest: The National Rifle Association of America.

The NRA spent $20 million on behalf of its candidates — nearly five times more than the combined effort of all other such groups.

In fact, the amount of money the NRA spent to defeat Democrat John Spratt in South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District was more than all the other Second Amendment groups combined.

The group is now well-positioned to protect gun owners’ rights at the state and federal level for the next 10 years.

As of this writing, there are 17 new Republican faces in governors’ offices, 14 of whom received an A rating from the NRA on Second Amendment issues, and two of whom received a B rating.

The most important of these might be Scott Walker in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is a state which might now join the 40 other states that allow their citizens to carry a firearm for personal protection.

It also means that 116 electoral votes that went for President Barack Obama in 2008, will now be hotly contested in 2012.

In the U.S. Senate, seven of the new Republicans are A-rated by the NRA, and one of them has a solid B+ rating. In addition, not a single incumbent senator with an A rating from the NRA lost election. This too would indicate a political tide returning.

Considering there are 100 seats in the Senate, it will take two more election cycles for the tide to completely turn. In addition, only two NRA A-rated senators could be considered at risk in 2012, while 10 Senators with NRA ratings of F, D and C will likely have contentious re-elections...

You just can't argue with these guys who have decided to hate the NRA. The NRA could never be good enough for them, and trying to explain the difference between advocating gun rights and advocating every other faction of the conservative agenda is hopeless. Half the NRA-bashers on this thread still think they endorsed Reid. GOA and the other midget groups raise money by bashing the NRA, and these guys fall for it.

The NRA never told you to shut up, they just don’t waste their resources backing every part of the conservative agenda. They are a pro-gun organization, not pro-life or anything else. It’s just too bad you can’t see that without getting mad.

I didn’t take anything away from you. if I could, I’d give you some common sense. And again, the NRA did not endorse Reid, no matter what you read from cement-head here.

Since the GOP failed to take control of Congress, Harry Reid is a better alternative than what would have replaced him - upchuck Chuckie Schumer, a rapid anti-Second Amendment guy.

Chuckie Schumer, a rapid anti-Second Amendment guy.

He's very rapid. Don't get between him and a camera.

The NRA never endorsed Reid. They did give $4K to his campaign

If this is not an endorsement what is?

Put down the kool aid and step away from the voting booth.

Regardless of the pablum spewed by NRA shills, everybody can now see these NRA worms for what they really are.

You are correct sir!

all NRA material are simply ripped up before they’re even opened....which is hard sometimes because they purposely make them difficult to rip up....

What I meant was that Reid has the power to bring up pro-gun legislation through amendments and the like.

Any alliance with, or support of, Reid is a Mephistophelean bargain. If introduces pro-gun amendments, what are the covert deals, in exchange for pro-gun legislation, he is simultaneously making to attack our way of life? No thanks.

On target! Reid is not to be trusted. Every plus has a backswing with him.

They gave him 4 grand... of our money... you like that? I will not quit the NRA... but I sure as hell have let them know where I stand... and if they stand with rats of any kind... they stand against America. How long do you think the NRA will remain a legal group if obama gets all of his agenda through? Not long I can tell you. Open your eyes and use some of that vast reservoir of commons sense that you have.

The NRA are not smart enough to think about that... plus since we did get the House... no anti-gun bills can pass anyway. Better to rid the Nation of rats... without Freedom and Liberty and an economy... the NRA and the Second Amendment will no longer matter. BIG PICTURE man.

"If this is not an endorsement what is?"

An "endorsement" is an endorsement. A "donation" is not (although I don't like it either). Words have meaning.

Kool-Aid? Don't touch the stuff. I'd suggest you do the same.

"I’d rather have had them endorse the pos and kept our dues money and donations."

I'd rather they do neither. But politics, like reality itself, rarely follows the ideal.
