far less damage would have been done ...

Here in MA, we seem to always be on that 47% side (or, perhaps mostly in the 40% side). It just seems to me the 53% is made up not just of voters, but of a good percentage of droners. That is, drones who vote. We can write tons of logical LTEs, win sign wars, clearly win debates, call, robo-call, door knock, call and then call some more, and then the other guy, a sleaze bag gets in because those droners won't, don't (or can't) listen to reason. On the can't listen to reason, I recently checked out a talk by Evan Sayet of "How Liberals Think", which makes a pretty solid case that you can reason during a campaign till the cows come home, but those cows are droners.

The worst possible case and the other possibility says that we split the country up. Democracy is a fairly good system for governing a fairly homogeneous people with shared ideals and values; it was never meant to serve as a system for sharing power between two or more groups of people who basically just hate each other and don’t have anything in common at all other than living in the same political jurisdiction. The Voters’ Bill of Right I’m suggesting strikes me as minimal if the country is going to stay together.
