The race for chairman of the House Republican conference between Reps. Michele Bachmann (Minn.) and Jeb Hensarling (Texas) has become, according to much of the media, a battle between the Tea Party and “The Establishment.” On Fox News Sunday last weekend, Chris Wallace questioned Eric Cantor over his support for Hensarling. Wallace called the Texan “a member of the Republican establishment,” and asked, “Doesn’t the Tea Party d

Hensarling has a conservative voting record, but he has not been the public advocate for conservatism that Michelle Bachmann has.

During the big Scozzafava war, Hensarling and Cantor endorsed Scozzafava.

Now the anti-tea party/anti-Palin, Cantor wants to complete his team with his man, Hensarling

One must see the Wallace interview to truely understand Eric Cantor. He had a grin from ear to ear when Wallace said isn’t the Good Ole Boys in the GOP not giving the tea party a seat at the table. His answer says it all.

Someone please post the video and transcript.

If people remember correctly, it was Michelle Bachmann who put her reputation on the line and asked everyone to come to the mall on 9/12. There were many skeptics who thought Bachmann had overreached and was going to look foolish. I remember going down there if for no reason then to support Bachmann. I think the Republicans and Tea Party members owe her something, if not this leadership position then something else.

Boehner, Cantor, et al would look pretty damn stupid if the “Tea Party 65” withdrew from the Republican Party, became independents and put the Dems back into the majority.
Cutting off their noses but it would sure raise the pucker factor a notch or two.

Cantor spoke a lot of words but never did answer the question.

Shades of mac daddy.

The republicans are starting out on a slippery slope with ba**s people like cantor.

After Bachmann mopped the floor with Little Chrissie Matthews--I'm all for her!

(Before that I didn't know who she was.)

GO MICHELE!

I'd prefer Michele. She's more of a bulldog. But we could do alot worse than Hensarling. As the article states in conclusion.

If these are the kind of choices we’ll have in future intra-Republican battles, we can only be very pleased.

As Martha Stewart says, "and that's a good thing".

I see this as part of the larger war, Cantor gets what he and the establishment wants in total control of the leadership, and we get shut out, we need her voice and influence in there.

No it's not, pissant.

Michele deserves this position, imo, and they're trying to shut her out.
...the Pubs, ie Cantor, Hensarling wouldn't even have this enviable spot if it hadn't been for the Tea Partiers and Bachmann.

My only point is that Hensarling is one of the most conservative guys we have. It’s not a loss for him to be in leadership. What I’d rather see is Bachmann replace that pencil necked, linguini-spined Cantor. He’s useless.

Hell, she should replace Boehner

I agree. But she should run for Cantor’s seat. I’d love to get that dim-wit out of there.

That would definitely be the desired goal. Cantor is a weak spot, an enemy in a high place.

The truth is, Cantor has a very conservative voting record. As of 2009, he had a lifetime ACU rating of 96.67, Boehner had a 94, Hensarling had a 98.81, and Bachmann had a 100. So when you look at it, they are all conservatives, but Boehner and Cantor have both become very elitist in some of their actions.
