Ok, so if this was a commercial flight why were there no records of it, why is there no radar record of it? I call BS, it is plain that this was a missle launch and if it is a plane climbing out, where did it take off from? The point of origin is supposedly off the coast, do we have sea plane airliners?

I’m not an expert on missiles or contrails. If you want me to believe this was a jetliner’s contrail, though, I’d check out those engines. That was one heck of lot of water vapor or exhaust. The contrail explanation sounds kinda odd.

Dang! And I was sure it was Nancy Pelosi’s face exploding after one too many Botox treatments!

Other threads here on Free Republic have offered specific airline flights.

Bah! It’s was an underwater space alien ship blasting back towards space to go home, and I defy anyone who can prove it was not!

Your explanations make too much sense. They don’t feed the hysteria people want to feel so it justifies their existing feelings.

Not saying you have the answers, but your post makes the most sense of those I’ve read.

An MIT professor just said he saw the “rocket” drop its first stage. Not sure how that fits with your theory, but I am going to guess that some FReepers loathing of MIT will suddenly disappear when they hear that.

The fact is that someone not friendly to us has access to a missile. We do not want another economic meltdown so the missile trail is, whew, swamp gas, Tinkerbell, or a jetliner flying at you slightly off center. Yeah I vote for the last one because it makes so much sense and we see it happening all the time.

What bull shit

Close proximity to Catalina Island, I'd think that people on the ground there would have seen and heard if this was a launch.

No reports from any boaters/fishermen in the area either.

It is the contrail of a airliner at altitude moving toward the camera,...

Ok then it shouldn't be hard to look up which flight it was.

Nothing personal but I'm not buying any normal airplane theory.

I heard an analysis by some guy on another place (can't remember where) who said that it was traveling at over 1,000mph. That is one fast commercial aircraft.

Not missile. I say what you think. You no worry now. Pilot say so and other authority say so too. You no think US military launch missile that cannot explain. What go up no need to come down. You no worry now.

As someone who worked at the DSP satellite download station, PAVE PAWS, and NORAD Cheyenne Mountain Complex, I have to agree with this report.

Folks, our guys and gals would have seen a missile launch. There's no two ways about it. They state categorically that they did not; I have to believe this. Remember that most members of the USAF are patriots who pledge to and follow the US Constitution; not some master appointed over them. They are not liars, either. They are far more likely to be a member of Free Republic than KOS or Huff Post. They're not part of some grand conspiracy!

If they tracked this and just don't want to report it, or where ordered not to report it, then they wouldn't have lied, but offered no comment instead.

And then there’s this:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/11/10/earlyshow/main7040379.shtml

But Doug Richardson, the editor of Jane’s Missiles and Rockets, examined the video for the Times of London and said he was left with little doubt.

“It’s a solid propellant missile,” he told the Times. “You can tell from the efflux [smoke].”

I finally watched the video last night. I concur with this article. I love contrails and have seen all sorts from all angles. As soon as I saw the video I noticed it looked suspiciously like a high altitude aircraft contrail. And even when the camera zoomed in, the speed of the aircraft matched the speed I would expect to see. Even the “flame” I immediately identified as the reflection of the sun off the plane. Heck, I’ve seen that from time to time at dusk even when the plane was producing NO contrail. It’s pretty cool.

What was most troubling to me was that the video was cut short. If it had run another minute or two, it would have been VERY clear what it was.

On a side note, I would have loved to have seen the contrails left by those 1,000 plane B-17 raids over Germany in the mid-1940’s - but from “flyover” territory, for obvious reasons.

contrail of an airliner

That means they can identify the airliner. They have a date, a time, a location, and a trajectory.

What will be suspicious is NOT coming out with the ID of the airliner in question. It should be too simple to figure it out.

However, it doesn’t help explain everybody’s prior statements that nothing at all was in the area.

Will be watching closely the Delta-4 Heavy launch on 11/18 and the Falcon 9 launch on Dec 7 to compare.

Depending upon rocket size and trajectory, some KSC launches really boogie while others take a long, long time from this ground observer's perspective.

Maybe it is an optical illusion but that surely looked like a launch to me.

The leftiest conspiracy theorists are calling this a “false flag” event, setting up their coming military coup of Obama, or something. They don’t seem to have a consistent position on airplanes that are mistaken for incoming missiles that are going in the wrong direction.
