A flight attendants union with 2,000 members is upset over what it calls "invasive pat-downs" recently implemented by the TSA.
"We're getting calls daily about peoples' experiences, our members are concerned," said Deborah Volpe, Vice President of the Association of Flight Attendants Local 66.
Volpe confirmed that the union is offering advice to its flight attendants, who mostly work for Tempe-based USAirways, involving the security moves.
According to a union email obtained by ABC15, it tells flight attendants if they opt out of using the body scanner through security and are required to undergo a pat-down to ask the pat-down be conducted in a private area with a witness.
"We don't want them in uniform going through this enhanced screening where their private areas are being touched in public," said Volpe. "They actually make contact with the genital area."
Some passengers have told ABC15 they've already encountered flight delays due to crew members having problems with TSA employees.
"It (delay) was over three hours when they finally found a crew member to take her place," said Les Johnson who says his Charlotte bound flight was delayed. "She (flight attendant) felt that she was groped and supposedly filed a claim."
"They've already contacted the ACLU," said Volpe when referring to some members of the union. "We don't know if somebody may have had an experience with a sexual assault and its (pat-down) going to drudge up some bad memories."
Volpe made it clear the union is not against security.
"Security is the most important aspect, our offices were used as murder weapons," said Volpe. "Keep in mind we undergo extensive background checks and we fly quite often."

TSA=purveyors of kiddie porn...
They can thank the underwear bomber for this.
“paging wet clean-up to security area”
excellent
Has anyone pointed out that neither the body scanners nor these invasive pat-downs would have detected the underpants bomber?
Remember those fluoroscopes in shoe stores decades ago?
I travel fairly frequently, I will opt out of this scanner. The grope-frisk will stop, too. I remember when they first started doing the back of the hand frisking, too, they’ve all but stopped that (in my experience).
I’m not waiting to hear 5 years from now that there is an increased risk of ANYTHING with exposure to the full body scanner. Just put me in the other line.
This is so totally reactive anyway. When they start smuggling explosives in body cavities or swallowing them, what will TSA/Homeland Security want then...pre-admission colonoscopies? Were does this end?
I’m in favor of armed pilots. or at least co-pilots, lol.
I would make EVERYONE FROM AN ARAB COUNTRY submit to a full body cavity strip search AND x-ray, until they figure out that they have to help out getting rid of muslims terrorists.
All this thanks to one man- Yassir Arafat- the inventor of tactics involving planes.
"'To put the issue in perspective, the radiation received from the scanning process is the equivalent to two minutes radiation received on a Transatlantic flight.
'Recent press publications have been a little alarmist and may have heightened concern in frequent travellers who may worry about their repeated exposure."
OTOH, many of the male flight attendants seem like the type who would enjoy having their junk massaged by the TSA

I have wondered if men should opt out of the scan and wear cucumbers. That or do as somebody on FR suggested— wait for them to go low and then pass gas in their face. :p
lol. not technically, but pretty close.
Yes. This is such garbage. I was x-rayed the last time I flew and I am pretty much done with flying.
About the same amount of radiation you get from three minutes of the flight at cruise altitude.
I recently returned from the South Pacific and had to connect through LAX and finally home.
I will explain I'm your average WASP, White Anglo-Saxon Protestant.
At LAX I had to change terminals for my connector. Checking in, I was greeted by a angry female African-American agent. After pleasantries were exchanged and I finally received my boarding pass I watched as the agent took out a pink hi-lite and marked my boarding pass.
I noted the person behind me was of African-American descent and watched the agents demeanor change instantly. I decided to watch this particular agent as something just didnt fit. What I noticed was astoundingly shocking. Every white person who dealt with this agent had a pink hi-lite mark on their boarding pass. What was more astounding was every (white) person with a pink hi-lite was automatically sent for secondary screening regardless if they passed the initial screening. I was thoroughly incensed and brought my objections to this 'profiling' to the airlines management. What I'm getting at, is your only as good as the person you are dealing with. In this case, this individual thought her way of 'higher security' was to annoy caucasians.
No.
That and the Left's irrational hatred of profiling ...
yes, skin cancer
Source please.
how different?
