WATTS has never been rebuilt.
Insurance companies will NOT underwrite any enterprise there- especially a decent grocery store.
They burned down their own suppliers. Who would want to go thru a repeat of that event? I worked on the perimeter of that event—was more than scary. Was a kid then & had to go to wrok. Today, I would have stayed home-35 miles away-where it was safe.
I understand...a buddy and I got busted during some “civil unrest” in ‘67 for trying to score some looted booze as underage punks. Got thrown in the can and held 3 days incommunicato.
I can’t say we weren’t thoroughly deserving of the rough treatment but it was pretty scary. Funny, prowling ghetto streets looking for liquor didn’t seem nearly as scary, for some reason.
