Kirk Can’t Join Senate at Start of Lame Duck (IL Dems just can't finish paperwork in time)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 11-8-10 | Danny Yadron

Republican Rep. Mark Kirk of Illinois might not become Sen. Mark Kirk as soon as he would like.

State officials told Washington Wire that the five-term Republican, who defeated state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias in the contest for President Barack Obama’s old Senate seat, can’t fill his new post until Nov. 23, a week after the Senate convenes for the lame-duck session.

The reason for the gap: Illinois election officials need time to certify the vote.

He’s a RINO though, it might be better for us to make him wait.

Is anyone else in the position of completing an unfished term?

Jangles my anxieties at what their evil plans are for the lame duck session. Pubbies better stay alert and be a brick wall.

Wasn’t this an issue with Scott Brown as well? As I recall, someone in the GOP or the Brown camp stepped in to force their hand and seat him. My memory is a little hazy on this...

The reason for the gap: Illinois election officials need time to certify the vote.

Which, amazingly, will come right on the heels of votes on:

1. DADT repeal

2. Cap and Tax

3. Illegal alien amnesty

How fricking convenient.

“IL Dems just can’t finish paperwork in time”

Can’t? Or just don’t want to?

So the current “selected not elected” Senator will NOT be able to vote either, right? Right?

He has no standing, a replacement has been found even if that winner hasn’t been determined yet.

Same thing they pulled early this year after the special election in Massachusetts. There the Senate let the temporary senator keep voting illegally although his term expired the minute the election was held. I don’t know if the same rules apply in this case but they should—in which case the temporary senator should not be allowed to vote.

This is just too convenient. In spite of Mark Kirk’s less-than-spectacular record, he won fair and square and deserves to be seated according to the rules. It makes one wonder whether the ‘Rats have any lame-duck shenanigans up their sleeves.

Just lock the libs in a room and make them finish the paperwork before they can leave. It’s like dealing with kids who don’t want to finish their homework. No reward until AFTER you are done doing your work.

Yeah, that’s proof all right. Always believe rumor-mongering, bloggers and the Leftist media and you’ll always be informed. And its never too early to scream “RINO!”. Jerk.

Fair and square, my ass. The same folks that orchestrated Kirk’s coronation are the same ones that stole the Governorship for the Mighty Quinn.

You’re probably right about the governorship being stolen, but those same people supported Mark Kirk? The ran a lot of nasty TV ads and made personal charges against him. The Illinois Senate race was one of the most negative in the nation.

Yup, the same people. Remember, this is Illinois. Too many folks around here are viewing this through the prism of Republican vs. Democrat. Politics in Illinois are Combiner vs. anti-Combiner. Combiner Kirk was running with Combiner Quinn... not with anti-Combiner Brady (and Brady has to have known that). All Alexi (another Combiner) was was a ringer in the race. The whole thing was a gargantuan joke.

Of course, the same people did not put Kirk in. The imaginary “Combine” is like a boogie man. Why would “the Combine” not want “their boy” seated. But such are the ridiculous contentions of the Ultra Right as opposed to ordinary conservatives.
