He did not run away - sheesh. He had no idea what had happened to them and was seriously wounded in the head. He somehow crawled out of the basement outside and got his neighbor to call for help.
I didn’t know what happened to the Dad, I just heard he was there and survived. Prayers to him and his anguish.
