I’ve always assumed that. The military isn’t exempt from wasteful spending and inefficiency. There have to be ways to reduce spending without reducing the actual strength of our military.
Indeed it is, not to mention the crap afterwords.
One of my first jobs was for a company that built computer peripherals, now known as printers for the military. The company had a patent on a process that allowed printers to print under extreme conditions (vibration, cold, etc). I was a production planner for many orders and when they were complete I was required to be present at the source inspection buy offs....for each deliver.
I'm 20 years old and required to attend meeting withe Generals in some cases who had the authority to accept the orders.
This was back in 1980
Exactly, we spend $663 billion with 700,000 civilian employees in the Dept of Defense. There bound to be a few billion dollars in redundancy there.
And a great deal of that paperwork was put into place by Leftists in the Congress like Conyers and Dingell in an effort to hamstring procurement, and make it obviously wasteful.
This gave them a convenient bogeyman: they could criticise when the toilet seat wasn't made to spec ("evil contractor trying to force our boys to use substandard equipment!") and they could criticise the cost necessary to comply with the paperwork ("How can you charge $7000 for a toilet, Mr. L!").
All a scam to keep them in money and power.
