Excellent filmed look at the devastation of World War One. A war removed from almost all living people’s experience, much as WWII is but a story (and film) to those born in the past 50 years. Another example of why Hollywood films about war rarely are close to realistic. It’s too difficult to portray the kind of brutal destruction and desolation that war brings to a nation and it’s people. However, as long as evil men try to conquer nations and make their people subservient to the will of tyrants, war will be with us.
Compare those WWI photos, or photos of Dresden in WWII, with the iconic photos of Hiroshima.
Not all that much difference.
[Hiroshima today]
As that scumbag Yankee General Sherman famously said, "War is Hell!"
At the Verdun battlefield, 90 years after the war ended..nothing will grow there...because of the huge amounts of chemicals in the soil from the tens of thousands of artillery rounds that landed there..I’ve walked it..nothing like it on the planet..tens of thousands of men were vaporized..
