LI Dem 'de-elected' in ballot botch

A vote-counting error has thrown a contentious Long Island congressional race into chaos and may put an end to the four-term career of Rep. Tim Bishop.

The Democrat's victory in Tuesday's midterm elections is now in dispute after Suffolk County Board of Elections officials announced their tally was off by nearly 4,000 votes.

Board member Wayne Rogers says a routine check of voting-machine memory cards Friday showed that instead of Bishop leading by 3,461 votes, he was actually losing to Republican Randy Altschuler by a little less than 400. MISCOUNT: Rep. Tim Bishop (left) is trailing GOP opponent Randy Altschuler. MISCOUNT: Rep. Tim Bishop (left) is trailing GOP opponent Randy Altschuler.

Rogers said the mistaken tally was reported by telephone and relayed through intermediaries.

"Somewhere within that process, some of these numbers must have been transcribed incorrectly," he said.

Around 9,000 absentee ballots cast in the 1st District have yet to be counted, a process not expected to begin for days.

YEAH RIGHT, Somewhere, somehow.....
Most papers reported Bishop, the winner, before confirmed and before counting and including the almost 10,000 absentee votes. The majority of them are Military, Republican and Conservative. Talk about trying to take an election. Bishop stating I'm confident I won.... Not so fast Bishop!

I don’t doubt they were transcribed incorrectly. The quesiton is whether it was a mistake.

Your post made me break up.
If only the GOP would be as honest about things.

Hmmmm.....if the Suffolk County Board of Election officials publicly admitted that the Republican is actually ahead in this race, then perhaps the original reporting WAS a mistake. Since when do these officials EVER admit the vote is actually in favor of the REPUBLICAN?! How refreshing.

Now if only the same announcement would be made in regards to the Nevada Senate race....sigh.

Isn’t it great! I was so annoyed from election day and searching news sources on this. Many just reported Bishop won. Yet on Randy Altschuler’s facebook, from the start, they knew something wasn’t right. Also, almost 10,000 absentees were not counted. Finally, they are realizing they have to report the truth :)

What a huge relief. I wrote Bishop during the healthcare debates. How condescending he was writing back. His decision was not his districts and even after town hall meeting, he didn't care. Buh bye Bishop :)

Same questions are being asked here in Arizona about Giffords and Grijalva.

I posited a conservative conspiracy theory on another thread:

I have an even better conspiracy theory. We all know that Dems can cough up enough votes on demand, after the polls close, to pull an election over the finish line. So here’s the conservative counterstrategy. Overreport the Dem votes in your precinct...let all the Dem precincts cough up just enough votes to make their guy win, and THEN “discover” the error and correct the vote in the conservative precinct.

In this scenario, the overreporting precinct isn’t cheating in the sense of creating votes from thin air. Rather, they are just forcing the Rats to show their hand, before accurately reporting their own vote count.

Of course, my theory is total speculation, and I know nothing avout the specifics of this case.

What was really questionable at first, is how they declared Bishop winner, in print, liberal papers,(most of ours are) by shy margin. This even before those almost 10,000 absentees were counted.

We unseated Foley in NY State Senate. This district voted Bush in 2004. It made absolutely no sense to me. Then, I read the news yesterday that it was not even a win for Bishop, a mistake, before even counting of the absentees. Soon, I can celebrate. :)

There is NO WAY that the rat Manchin beat Raese here in WV. I don’t know ANYONE that voted for Manchin and the yard signs were 10-1 for Raese (and I am in a liberal part of the state). All of the polls showed Raese ahead. BUT Manchin was able to get his union thugs out, one of the Repub poll workers I knew said that all of the rat workers at his precint were from the unions.

I was so upset the day after election that this was not being covered. My fear is everyone reads Bishop won and that's that. Glad they are covering it in your area. Hope your candidate keeps fighting for the rightful win! I'm so glad Altschuler did not concede, as Bishop basically said he won election night.

"10,000 absentee votes. The majority of them are Military, Republican and Conservative."

I wouldn't be so sure of that....remember a lot of seniors head to FL in October.....these could easily be the snow geese heading South...where they will cast their votes again....

I hope Bishop loses....his arrogance precedes him....couldn't happen to a better guy....

Does anyone know how absentee votes broke during his last election....?

Voter fraud is out of control. Ironically, we had new election machines this year. They definitely appear to be a step backwards from what we used formerly.
