Terming the choice of Mumbai and the Taj Mahal Hotel to launch his maiden India trip as a “strong message” against terrorism, US President Barack Obama said on Saturday in his first official statement in the country that he was looking forward to discussing with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh how India and the US could deepen their partnership in counter-terrorism efforts.
While the President made no mention of state-sponsored terrorism, he demanded that the perpetrators of the 26/11 attack be brought to justice. “Mumbai is a symbol of energy and optimism,” he said, adding that the Taj and its staff were “symbols of the strength and resilience of Indian people”.
Speaking on the terrace of the Taj Mahal palace hotel against a backdrop of the Gateway of India and the Indian and US flags, Obama said, “In our determination to give our people a future of security and prosperity, the United States and India stand united.”

His historic affinity for Pakistanis has to be unsettling to India, but reports appear to be just more fawning prattle. In this speech, he sounds much more upbeat about India and Indians than he ever does about America and Americans. His heart is elsewhere.
This whole trip thing is just weird, so many dissonant symbols. The statement about just why that particular hotel was chosen adds to the oddity. An American president with a longtime relationship with Pakistan, turning up and more or less taking over the same hotel attacked by Pakistanis for a state visit? I can see how things might be interpreted far differently in certain circles, hence the official explanation hoping to nip that in the bud.

I get just a whiff of the same sentiment behind plopping a giant mosque by Ground Zero out of the choice of hotels, myself. Thumbing their noses at somebody, Sihks are as good a possibility as any. How is this diplomacy in any way, shape or form? It’s going to be seen as provocation.

Absolutely, the muslim is thumbing his nose at the Indians. It is just like the Iman lying like a SOB, wanting ground zero for their “religious” center. To them, they are like dogs, marking terror-tory. The grand Ghazi from the White House? Dong the same for Islam one more time.

Could this guy be any more full of himself? “Look at the powerful message I’m sending! I rock!” Well, he’s sending a powerful message against coconuts, wild monkeys and street dogs.
Is this some sort of brain washing technique? Or is he testing to see how much he can debase his media lap dogs? Is he trying establish to them that he "owns" them like a pimp debases a prostitute to the point where she will submit to anything?
