I remember pictures of Bush, Blanco and Nagin riding around downtown New Orleans on a army Jeep, checking out the damages.

Bush did VERY little wrong in Katrina, but he didn't know that.
The first response is always supposed to be local, the Feds came in about when they should have.

The scope of Katrina just overwhelmed everything available. And probably more importantly than anything; New Orleans is filled with shiftless people who refused to help their selves.
ANY other part of the nation would have made a much better outcome of this.
I still remember seeing the response by the people of San Francisco to the 1989 earthquake. I had just moved from there a few months before the earthquake, so I was pretty tuned in when this happened. People were helping each other out in a way I had never seen there. The city just changed immediately it seemed to get things taken care of. Everyone helped each other.
Not so in New Orleans. They sat around and waited for the government to come in wipe their butts.
